Musicians for the D.C. March

I wish Guns N' Roses - the original lineup - would perform.

They would bring probably 50,000 + people to the rally (and this is being REALLY conservative).

Are you kidding? Exactly how few people are you expecting to turn up? There's no chance any band on earth has played to the number of people we will get at this rally.

Big Festivals in Europe can go 100k

stadiums 50k

arenas 20k

I don't know how many people are going to show up, but I've read some outlandishly high numbers around here.

lol not really true. heres one, Grath brooks played to a crowd of 980,000 people in central park in 1997. ;)

not to mention all the bands that played at the original woodstock in front of 500,000 hippies :D

unless of course if you for expecting a higher turnout then garth brooks or woodstock..

- The Guinness Book of Records says the largest free rock concert attendance was for Rod Stewart, also on Copacabana Beach, on New Year's Eve 1994. It reportedly attracted an audience of 3.5 million people.

- The largest paying audience for a solo performer was the estimated 180 000 to 184 000 people who saw Paul McCartney in Rio's Maracana Stadium on April 21 1990, also according to Guinness.

- About 750 000 people saw country star Garth Brooks in New York's Central Park in August 1997.

- The United States festival organised by Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak drew 670 000 people to Devore, California, in May 1983 to see U2, David Bowie, Willie Nelson and others.

- The legendary Woodstock Festival in upstate New York in 1969 gathered 400 000 people to see The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead and a host of others.

- A free Rolling Stones concert in London's Hyde Park in July 1969, days after the death of guitarist Brian Jones, drew 200 000. Mick Jagger read a Shelley poem and released hundreds of butterflies in tribute to Jones.

Their drummer, Dom, has been to my house.

Muse headlined Wembley 2 nights fairly recently, they play big festivals.

They're big on conspiracies, and seem to like Alex Jones.

Haha, lucky fuck.

This year they haven't got a world tour or anything, just a few random festival dates, so they'll have a lot of free time on their hands.

I believe they'd also be interested in playing such an event, but only if they could be convinced it'd be one of those legendary events where masses upon masses of people turn up.

Muse would be perfect for a way to end a night though. Anyone who's seen them live will agree they're one of the best live acts on the planet today, and their material is suited to Ron Paul's message in a way.

It's definitely worth a shot.

Someone should try to invite that rapper Paris.

He was interviewed on the Alex Jones show & I think he supports Ron Paul..

Um, Arlo played Woodstock. I don't know how many people will show up in D.C., but I know Woodstock had a few (around a half a million), so if Arlo decided to attend our march (since he seems to support Ron) . . .

It just has to be someone that the general public will recognize. It'll be great to get as many good bands as we can, but we NEED someone famous to make headlines.

This whole march has to be about making headlines in order to get people's attention.

To MAKE the headlines or DETRACT from the headlines we WANT...

Which would you prefer:

Ron Paul attracts 700,000 people to Washington Rally.

or

Radiohead plays to 1,000,000 at Washington Rally.

Me.. Three piece band can be heard here

I wrote, produced, engineered, sang and played guitar on all the songs. The band I used went from first rehearsal to final take in eight weeks. The False Emperors Song, Circle Of Abuse and Dance O' Shades are quite cogent to this election cycle.

However I have a wicked acoustic set for this venue with some historical songs and Americana. Same set I did for the rock festival in Little Five Points that took over the counterculture mecca of the southeast under The R3volution banner for 14 hours on the 700th anniversary of the arrest of the Knights Templar (gold metal trusts). Didn't realize that till the day prior to the event.

Best Regards
randy

Good deal!

I think Prodigy of Mobb Deep is about to go to jail...or maybe that's Havok...but anyway one of them is LOL

We don't have to fill up all the slots right away, of course.
I think that numbers like 700k and 1million are way high.

I'd be more concerned about diluting the political impact by
having other political groups.

If Radiohead plays, other big groups will also play.
If Radiohead and a whole bunch of big groups play,
and it's a free show, people would think that Ron Paul must
be pretty cool if he can get all of these big groups to play a
concert for him.

I wouldn't worry about the media spin.

It would be so cool to get artists of all kinds of music style, it would show we're a wide variety of people.

I wish Paris (the rapper) would come! He seems to be aware of the state things are, very intelligent guy.

My band Father Bloopy is down!

For starters, I'll say that while this is a cool idea...to have bands, artists, who genuinely support Ron Paul and the liberty message...it shouldn't become the main focus or attraction for the march. I mean, imagine if The Beatles made an appearance during the 1963 March on Washington...it would be remembered as that historic moment when The Beatles performed for civil liberties, etc...catch my drift?

stuff like the blimp, money bombs...thats good for trying to get press attention.

Of course, in this day we live in, it may be expecting too much for the media and mainstream America to understand the concept and civil power we would be demonstrating. I don't think having Radiohead will change that to a positive.

For me, success would be attracting the huge numbers being thrown out, but solely for the message that we want...NEED...to send Washington. We must show our numbers before its too late. Wish we could do this next weekend!!

With that said, I'd still love to perform with my group Father Bloopy www.myspace.com/fatherbloopy or www.fatherbloopy.com.
At our shows down here we do our bit to help spread the word...handing out dvd's or slimjims. Our material isn't necessarily political, few exceptions...but check us out =)

So I guess my final comments will be...let this not be something like Gore's pathetic and horrible concept of "Live Earth"

I think the musicians that deserve to be invited are those that incorporate some truth in their songs. Paris and Michael Franti should be at the top of the list. Rage Against the Machine I think is another group that adds a different perspective to the frustration. So I think the musicians that contributed to our movement should be invited.

Also another realistic possibility would be Phil Lesh + Friends....

Phil was the bass player for the grateful dead.....

He has played with John Mayer on New Years at the warfield in San Francisco....if there's any hope that John Mayer might play.

Phil Lesh is someone who hasn't been heard of much since his traitor band mates from the grateful dead, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart became members of the Bohemian Club and played at Bohemian grove....

But Phil is a good guy who tries to do what is right and someone who would prolly put his support behind Ron Paul and play if asked, especially if John Mayer was in the lineup.

Also someone Phil respects very much threw a fundraiser for Ron Paul in 1988 in his libertarian presidential bid adding even more reason for his band to play, also Phil has ins with willie.

Also Neil Young would be a possibilty, while I acknowledge his statement on music can't change the world....he might see his endorsement towards someone who could change the world....might help.

.
I would love to see Phil and Friends play at the Freedom March! I am a long-time GD follower, went to 300 or so shows, including many Phil & Friends shows. I was very upset when I found out about Hart and Weir being Grove members. I also recently received an email saying they were all reuniting to play a show for Obama, and that really bummed me out. I deleted immediately... Do they not know, I thought, or are they involved? Do they believe the Obama's-against-the-war BS??? I really think Phil is a great person, regardless of what Weir and Hart may be involved in. Perhaps someone can get in touch with him and find out where he stands.
