Been a supporter since 07, converted my mom and brother, and have been working on my dad the last 5 years. Last night I was talking to him, and he mentioned how he hates Romney, I was like "So vote for Ron Paul!", and he vehemently informed me that would never happen. He wants someone who can WIN! This turned into a very heated argument, both of us yelling, me trying to explain what a delegate is, him saying he'll go for Grinch, me saying that's stupid, and on and on. Eventually we both hung up mad as hell.

After work today, I checked my phone and found this message from him "I'm going to be a delegate for Ron Paul at the state convention in March. Just spoke with someone from the campaign." My response, miiiiight have been a little less than what it should of been "Holy shit Really?!?". Turns out, due to the fact that when I was 17 I use to give my dad money and have him donate for me, he's on their calling list. Just after our argument, they called, asked if he still supported Ron Paul. He told them "I'm definitely voting for him.", and they asked him to be a delegate.

My mind is absolutely blown, 5 years of calm conversation, and apparently we finally yell just in the nick of time.

Eh. I wouldn't want someone like that to be a delegate.

Just saying.

That's really cool! I think my mom is almost ready to support him too keep us in your thoughts.

He's always agreed with Ron Paul, on pretty much everything. It's just been a fight to make him realize a Paul presidency is possible.

Thank god you're not the Campaign.

Why? Because I don't want someone who vehemently said he would never vote for Paul 5 minutes prior to agreeing to be a delegate for him?

Those are not the type of people we need at the convention.

It's the guy's dad. I highly doubt he wants to fuck over his son. If anything, the person on the line might have helped convince him to be a Ron Paul supporter, or perhaps something else throughout the day, or even maybe his dad just wanted to make his son happy by doing something he knows his son has a lot of passion about.

This. If it goes brokered...he's not a lock for Ron Paul.

The people who argue like that are the strongest supporters. His dad is the type of person who is like me, constant devil's advocate. He wasn't arguing with his son because he thought his son was wrong, if you ask me. He was arguing to see how convincing his argument is. You gain a much much better understanding if you look at things critically, and argue against them. If you surround yourself with people you agree with, and never challenge what you think then you become stagnant, you don't grow and work to better understand your positions, and most definitely aren't prepared to defend them when the time calls for it.

I think his dad is a perfect delegate.

Then he wouldn't have ended the call mad as hell...

So you all would rather have this guy as a delegate, than someone who has canvassed, made Phone from Home persuasion calls, donated his own money, etc.? If the choice is between a random Gingrich supporter, and one who has a son who likes Ron Paul, I'd take the latter. But it's not exactly good, hopefully it is only a county and not state level delegate.

That was funny.

Congratulations, Nate!

Uh, just an FYI people. Gingrich supporters are talking about attempting to infiltrate as Ron Paul delegates.

Keep in mind there are different types of delegates. Precinct-level delegates get to vote and decide who gets to the county level, and so on and so forth. It's not like this guy's dad is going to be the one going to the national convention straightaway.

We need all the help we can get. At the precinct convention, 1 extra vote makes a difference. That is why all RP supporters should become delegates.

I agree with gerryb. This makes no sense.

I hope the rest of you are right, but I just ain't feelin' it ....

Gingrinch doesn't even have full slates of delegates in many states. They should worry about their own slates first. This might be an issue where he's not on the ballot though - such as Virginia/Missouri.

All delegates should be checked for their credibility - how well they know their RP history, etc. :) Tricky questions such as "Would you vote for RP as VP?" etc.

After re-reading the OP - it's a state level delegate.. which could mean two things... going directly to national.. or voting on who goes to national. In my state they go directly to national.

is there a way to contact the campaign and tell them you want to be a delegate? I am going to do it anyhow, but if that will have an impact on getting selected I want to do it.

Get in touch with your county coordinator, or state coordinator. All the Super Tuesday states should have those by now.

If you're not in one of those states.. http://www.ronpaul2012.com/delegate/
