More than 100 lawmakers ask Obama to seek congressional approval on Syria strikes

I hope they are not asking for a debate and vote so they can just go ahead and rubber stamp an authorization for war. Anyway good for them, put pressure on the rabid war dog of a president.

In light of what has happened in UK, politically I don't see the idea that far fetched that the same thing may happen here if our congress finds it's backbone and passes something to stop military action. Once it comes back into session if the attacks haven't happened prior to congress coming back, perhaps something can happen, unfortunately attacks seem more likely to unfold once the UN inspectors leave on Saturday if something doesn't happen quickly.

The letter has been updated with new signers here in this new PDF, I'm happy to now see my district congressman has signed on. :)

I might be missing it, but still see no Massie from what I can tell, anyone here a constituent, or can contact his office to request he sign the letter? I know it doesn't have the strongest language but the effort to stop Obama needs to start somewhere in Washington and this is the only organized effort I see so far that is happening.

Of course my "representative" Mac Thornberry isn't on the list. His job is dependent on weapons manufacturer lobbyists and the dead bodies they profit from.

That's why I was pleased to see my guy on the list. We've got Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, and many others in the district.

One thing that was mentioned on this panel, congress doesn't want to be involved in a up or down vote at all. Makes me wonder if the Jonny come lately signatures on the letter are those that would ideally not wanted to have this decision made in congress.

Thanks to everyone that contacted their reps to sign a letter or otherwise speak out that Obama needed to congress on this issue.

Not trying to be a downer, but he could actually play both sides here. All this letter does is ask the president to involve Congress. It doesn't necessarily mean they won't vote to intervene.

When Rand Paul was asked "Can you point to something" that would have forced Obama to reconsider his position of ordering the strikes and instead go to congress first, he said maybe it was the 80% of the public that have been telling all their representatives that they want congress to vote on this at 0:58 seconds in this video:

Like I was saying in the OP this could be all for show, I'm certain some that signed the letter and spoke out did it to score political points never thinking it would actually go to a vote, but that doesn't really matter now. What matters is that it will be going to congress and this vote may very well make or break political careers as congressman will now need to go on the record and cast a vote on the issue. If public opinion continues to be high that we should stay out of the war in Syria this could very well have an impact on the 2014 and 2016 races. Regardless of how these people may have tried to play both sides this has now backfired on those thinking in that way because they will now be forced to choose a side, and there is a very good chance this whole thing maybe stopped in the House, versus the direction we were headed before which was left to Obama's prerogative.

Wow what a spin-job by John Bolton!

We'd still be speaking the king's English if Washington hadn't over-ridden the continental congress?

I recall that the war was already on by town militia groups before the Continental Congress even voted for independence. I haven't seen any Syrian armies coming for the town armory, nor American militia groups fighting back against them.
