You know, I just don't get it. I see them all of the time but not in such numbers of them as I witnessed today in the city. I had to go into Philadelphia today and I saw them everywhere. It seems like we are creating a new breed of feminine men or something. They dress weird. They act weird. They even walk and carry themselves weird. I don't know. I just wonder if the majority of them have ever performed a real day's work. Like man's work. Or been in a fight. Not that I condone going around fighting people or anything. I don't. But you get the idea. Right? I mean, let us think of a really bad thing that could happen. An EMP or something. Could you rely on these people? Could they carry firewood? Could they split it? Could they hunt? Could they hoe an acre of land? I'm sure a lot of people here have lugged a deer up a steep hill a time or two. What good would they be aside from a liability? It just baffles me is all. I suppose it is okay to be a hipster guy with today's liberal mindset as long as it doesn't affect me. But what if everything changed one day? What if some of these new age modern liberal hipster girly boys had to actually become a man overnight? Could they do it? I don't think so.

Anyway. I suppose I'm just kind of ranting here. I just haven't seen that many hipster fellers as I saw in the city today and it got me thinking about this stuff.

And they snatch stuff, too. I forgot to mention that. They're very competitive when it comes to consumption. I went into the cafeteria at the building I was in and those guys were really rude. They were just butting in front of the women folks and snatching things. Like chips and stuff. Almost pushing them out of the way even. And they would walk through the door and just let it slam on the person behind them. They're igrant lil fellers, for sure. I suppose it could be a city life mindset, too. Who knows?

Yes. Starving as they would be they could be made to carry it.

Could they split it?

Yes. Cold and starving as they would be they could be made to split it.

Could they hunt?

No. That's why they would be carrying and splitting wood.

Could they hoe an acre of land?

Yes. Starving as they would be they could be made hoe an acre of land.

Truth is, if something akin to an EMP were to happen, very few would actually make it out of the cities. And those who did would find little succor from those in outlying communities. Something like an EMP would kill off 80% of the population. And that's a generous estimate.

I think that's an extreme exagerration. For instance, you'll hear alarmist ads for water purification systems. Um, artesian wells are free.

You'll hear how people will die of hunger. What would you do if you were dying of hunger? You'd eat anything. Flowers and grass and worms and bugs, and you'd survive. Few people could lead a great lifestyle, and 'income' inequality would be vastly worse than it is now in such a scenario, but few people would die of hunger. Exposure in some places, but not hunger.

yep i live in a small city now, and its full of them. i take pride going into the parts store and knowing that i am more of a man than the guy behind the desk. with dirt, oil, gasd and grease all over me, they actually look at me like i should have cleaned up first. it blows my mind. cool thing is at my parts store, theres this lady there who knows her stuff and she doesnt mind going out and getting dirty under the hood. she begged me to let her install my battery so she could get out of the store for a while. so i let her.

but yes, guys todays are wimps and pussies. i know very few that would pass for a mans man.

I don't think it is an extreme exaggeration or perhaps you do not understand what would happen in an EMP situation. No vehicles would travel. This means no deliveries of food. None. After three days stores would be dried up. With no refrigeration after one week all food that can spoil, will. No food but that which is in your pantry. In cans. Then the looting of others food stores begins. The deaths which come from that. No vehicles means medical supplies are not getting delivered. Within weeks hospitals would be running out of life saving supplies. They don't stock up in abundance. Drug stores, ditto, No more antibiotics. No more insulin. Etc. Infections which today are taken care of with a trip to the doctor become terminal.

Somehow I read this as 'those who did would find little succor from [the wilderness] instead of what you wrote. That and repeating the word starving had me thinking about how it took me a while to realize food is not really the big problem if SHTF.

Good points, violence would be a big cause of death, and infections as that which causes them would be more frequent, but I haven't used any of those things in years aside from tooth antibiotics, which probably caused some deaths before discovered. I still think that's somewhat exagerrated, but I agree with you mostly.

The other thing is that alarmist commercials act like death is on the horizon if we no longer have access to what our grandparents grew up without.

I agree. This has been the case for some time now. I ask my mom (a liberal) all the time to show me ONE democrat with some balls. One male democrat that could skin a buck, or even survive on their own for in the elements for more than a few days...

The modern androgynous 'man' is not meant to survive a shtf scenario...

I see this as a good thing

Food would be a big problem. Especially the time of year that an EMP were to happen. Gardens don't grow overnight or not at all in winter. How many in today's society would simply lay down and die given such a situation? Remember, that vast majority believe that government will be there for them. In an EMP situation the government is in just as much shit as citizens. There is no communication and it would be mere weeks before individuals would realize that there is no cavalry coming to save them.

You mention artisian wells. How many are there in your area? I don't imagine there are many in any major cities. Without electricity there is no water. Without water there is no sanitation service. Without that disease would run rampant.
Our grandparents grew up without. But, they had the ability to do without that which is the modern way. Not do without entirely.

Amen!

No, but if you find yourself with a disaster of a bad hair day, would you know what kind of styling gel to fix your hair to make it look nice?

They can certainly help you with that

Yeah, these are possibilities. The cities would be worst. Aside from that, the vast majority would have enough food for a good while, even if it wasn't food they liked. A huge portion of people would meet at their churches and pile their cans together. People would have nothing to do but solve these problems for weeks before it becomes dire for very many people - once the violent are dead (which I don't believe are as many people as some do) it would be mostly trading and small communes. And like I said, there is food in the dirt we walk on year round. Water is digging a hole. These are easily teachable things that would spread like wildfire. The problems then become psychological, people start snapping.

I'm not totally disputing your points but playing the other side to some extent. I do believe that anyone who thinks SHTF is a real possibility is more likely to think it will be worse than it really would be than a modern young liberal male is to be a hipster.

If SHTF, Hipsters would call for watering our agriculture with Gatorade.
