MN State GOP Convention Thread

I've been reading articles about the convention from Minnesota sources (Pioneer Press, etc.) this morning and they DO mention positively that Ron Paul supporters graciously conceded a delegate spot to Michelle Bachman. Good press is good, I suppose!

Not sure if that would have been my first choice, though. :)

Alternate Delegates

I was a delegate at the convention this weekend but left after the vote for alternate delegates. Does anyone know if the Ron Slate ran the table? Also, I first heard of Kurt Bills at the CD7 convention. He is going to be a rockstar. He has a very good chance to beat Amy Klobuchar. He is about 6' 2' and has a very commanding leadership quality presence while still coming off as very down to earth and friendly, like the perfect neighbor.

The delegates of the State Central Committee (which elected the RNC Committeeman and Committeewoman) were elected to their positions last year (2011) when we had much smaller numbers. As a result, SCC was dominated by the old guard. They now know that SCC is their last stronghold, so they will do whatever they can to defend it next year when new delegates are elected. They will be disappointed.

Jeff Johnson was unopposed. He gave an excellent speech to the convention telling the Ron Paul lovers to stay involved and the Ron Paul haters to "get over it". He's not a Paul supporter, but he knows we own the party now and he is willing to work with us. I see him as one of the "good" old guard who would rather see an open and fair party than one that exactly matches his political viewpoints. I don't mind him in the leadership spot he's in even if we may disagree on the issues because he will help us now that we are the ones in the majority.

Beihoffer is a hard worker but she is definitely party-over-principle. Anderson (who was ousted) is a Paul supporter, but I'd say she was willing to make strategic compromises from time to time; we'll do what we can to get her (or perhaps someone better) elected in two years.

Pagano is a good friend of mine, I got him and another friend from Orlando hired onto RP2012. He worked up here in MN with us tirelessly since October, him and I and another guy rented a house together in Minnetonka behind the MN-RP-HQ. As soon as the BPOU Conventions were wrapping up he transitioned over to the Kurt Bills team and is a great asset for them!

Yes Pagano is awesome. Had the pleasure of working with him in Iowa.

I wonder if three days of rubbing elbows and partying with Paul supporters can change some of her views. Maybe she comes out of it a better person and a better elected official. In any event, congrats to the "chaos slate"! Woot!
Educating the politicians doesn't work. You have to get them to do what you want them to do by threatening them with defeat if they do otherwise. We just did that. Not to mention that if she is to get reelected next cycle, she will be forced to get approval from the liberty wing of the GOP (yes, in MN, we are the new "establishment" heh). She serves at our pleasure now which means you'll see a stark change in her voting record. She is quite aware of this I assure you of that.

Here is the Chaos slate:

is being passed out by someone reportedly named "John Gilmore"
You should google for his name in MN. The guy is the worst of the worst. I believe there was an incident with him physically accosting a Muslim woman a while back. He was booed pretty bad several times when even mainstream Republicans called him out for this flyer at the Convention. Fortunately he's just one lone nut not representative of the entire MNGOP.

Who's running the 'Conservative Chaos' slate?

EdMorrissey @EdMorrissey

Ron Paul supporters circulating campaign lit for "Chaos Slate" for national-delegate elections. Classy. #mngop
See post above; a guy named John Gilmore trying to hurt RP people

I have heard quite the number of Hegseth supporters as well as some Severson delegates will not be making in back for part two. Regardless we are gonna dominate.
Yep, once Kurt swept his election a lot of the Severson and Hegseth supporters didn't come back the next day. This helped us for sure. :)

RT @stribrooks: Hegseth flier warns delegates: "Do the political math: Kurt Bills = Ron Paul." #MNGOP12
Yep, and that's why he won.

The neocons haven't figured out that they are trending downward yet and that their tired old language is on its way out.

Great day for Bills, one of my favorite candidates. It's a shame he's not from a state that's far more winnable than Minnesota.
I think it's possible for him to win the seat if he goes after her on some specific issues such as spying, warfare, SOPA/PIPA etc.

Hopefully business is completed by 5:00pm tomorrow (19th) or it won't be completed (rule #30 will automatically adjourn the convention at that time).
We discussed that rule internally quite a bit. In fact that rule was self-contradicting which means it could be called into question.
