Mitt Romney Mitt Romney drops out of Iowa Straw Poll

Romney is afraid to take the public loss. This is definetly good for Ron!

The opportunity to gain momentum is great!

He 'wasn't in' the SRLC last time, he was just 'humbled by the results' but then if he doesn't win it is harder to say it is a victory 'over' him since he didn't run. He knew he could spend a ton of money and lose. Whatever. This is going to narrow down to one grassroots candidate and one establishment candidate, in any event, likely.

Will Bachmann get in?

In, and win. She and Pawlenty are being set up as the two alternatives. One of them is likely to win this, she won't be playing around once she gets in. Unless she self destructs like the others. If so, you will hear it her first. Meanwhile, take her very seriously.

I see people celebrating this. Don't think this automatically wins anything for us. We need to continue to do all we can in order to have a massive blowout win at Ames.

Good decision by Romney, he's already the frontrunner and would have absolutely nothing to win by participating in the straw poll.

This is excellent news for us because no matter who says they will participate or not, his name will still be on the ballot and the poll will still be taken as "the holy grail" by news media and republican voters. Some will try to downplay the importance of the poll, but winning this is still one of the most important things you can do to win the nomination.

No it's not. It's only important for second-tier candidates trying to prove their campaign's legitimacy. John McCain got 0.7% of the votes in 2007.

Yep, they're getting ready to play this off like they did at CPAC2011. If Bachmann, Palin, or Cain wins the Iowa Strawpoll, it's big News, if Ron Paul wins, it's lost it's importance over the years, and the early states don't matter like they use to.

To be fair, Romney did not get any noticeable bump in the national polls from winning the straw poll in 2007.

I'll repeat again.. Romney and his team had absolutely no involvement planning, funding or otherwise, in the SRLC straw poll push. Don't be fooled that only Ron Paul people know how to organize an unofficial strawpoll push.

Almost true. The reality is, if Ron wins he will get a huge bump, the media will not be able to spin it. but then the polls and real numbers have to translate after that. In Iowa we have to move up and then win or do exceedingly well, in February, or the after effect will mean a repeat of 2008 with nothing gained. It has to be a real win, not a staged CPAC win. That is the fear and the real risk.

So, Nate, what is it about Mitt that you like? I'm honestly curious.

If Ron Paul wins Iowa, Pawlenty's done. If Bachmann wins Iowa, Pawlenty's done. If Cain wins Iowa, Pawlenty's done.
If Pawlenty wins Iowa, he's still done. He should quit now. Pawlenty is the only one who must win Iowa, and he won't win there.

If he's attempting to use this to discredit a Ron Paul win at Ames, then we need to spin his move as weakness. Tell everybody that you talk to online and offline that this move prooves that Romney doesn't even believe he can win. He dropped out of Ames so he doesn't get painted a loser by the media. Spin it! They do it to us. This is our chance to hit Romney where it hurts. He's afraid he's going to lose.

Are you a Romney troll? Cool. I've always wanted to pick the brain of a Romney supporter. What is it about MittWitt do you like?
