Michigan Republicans Looking to Primary Kerry Bentivolio

The best thing Kerry has going for him is that Obama was re-elected. If he can show his party back home that he is a staunch opponent of Obama's policies, that he's not causing headaches for GOP leadership, and that he's just not embarrassing the people of his district, then might be able to convince potential challengers not to run. If Romney won the election, then I'd guarantee right now that Kerry would be challenged.

Seems like Ron Paul wouldn't have made it past his first term in Congress...
Bullshit. Three votes could have changed the direction of this congress. If Ron voted today do you think he would have stood with Justin and Thomas or do you think his vote would have gone to Boner? No way in hell Ron wouldn't have rocked the boat on this one. Pay attention.

The '97 race where Gingrich won was closer than today's vote. Guess who campaigned against Ron and guess who Ron voted for Speaker.

I don't agree with Rep. Bentivolio, but everyone needs to CALM DOWN!!! It is not the end of the world. This is not the end of Bentivolio's votes. We will just have to watch him more closely, but I don't think he has "sold out" fully.

Thanks for your post. What you are saying is very true.

I'm disappointed with Bentivolio, but it's not worth throwing him under the bus (right now). I get that he doesn't want his very first vote as an inexperienced freshman to be against the likely speaker. I was considering sending Kerry money, but that's going to Amash instead. Kerry has some political cover now, but now Amash is wide open.

he wouldn't have today.

What makes today so different? Ron has seen it all and yet he continued to vote for the presumed Speaker every single time. What happened these past two years is not something Ron hasn't seen before. How many times did Ron get passed up for Chairmanship of the Monetary Policy Subcommittee?

You really are dense. You think Ron would have left our boys out there alone? Not an iota of a chance.

I think Ron sees electing Speaker as a formality. If Boehner isn't elected, some other establishment guy will. I see this as a protest vote that would have changed absolutely nothing kind of like replacing Bernanke with someone else. Nothing's going to change.

Correct. Even with Ron and Bentivolio, we still would've came up short. That's even if Ron would've made a protest vote, which isn't 100% certain based upon his past voting history.

Votes for House Speaker don't really seem like a legitimate "acid test" metric to me.

It sure would've been nice to give Boehner the boot, and it would have sent a message - but ultimately, those are just "feel good" items.

Even if Boehner had been ousted, we still would have ended up with a power-peddling establishment tool in the position, anyway ("Meet the new boss, same as the old boss ...").

There are important & substantive issues to get bent out of shape over. This just isn't one of them.
