Rep.-elect Kerry Bentivolio has not even been sworn in to Congress yet, but Republicans are already discussing a potential primary challenge this cycle.

Bentivolio, a reindeer rancher and veteran, won the GOP nod in August after Rep. Thaddeus McCotter dropped his re-election bid in this district northwest of Detroit.

“I’m sure he’ll get a primary,” said one Michigan Republican who requested anonymity to speak candidly. “He’s new, and people perceive him as untested. It’s a great seat.”

Two local Republicans mentioned businessman David Trott, former state Rep. Andrew “Rocky” Raczkowski and outgoing state Rep. Marty Knollenberg as potential challengers.

Knollenberg, the son of a congressman who represented much of that district for two decades, appeared open to the possibility.

“As far as future office, I’m going to look at whatever makes sense for Michigan residents and if people want to encourage me to run for something, I’d certainly look at it,” he said in a phone interview last week.

Just wait until he gets a 100% FreedomWorks score. They won't let him get primaried.

This might be a good cause for a money bomb in late 2013 and again in 2014.

Yes, we need to keep Kerry's coffers full and make sure outside groups know he is a friend of liberty and are willing to defend him

I think we should make a list of outside groups that need to contacted early on to make sure they start backing him from the begining:

Freedom Works
Club for Growth
Chamber of Commerce
National Right to Life
NRA
GOA

Keeping Kerry in congress is going to be our biggest challenge. I hope people will rise to it and we can schedule moneybombs next year.

If the establishment GOP take him out they will come after Amash next

That's just pathetic. There are about a zillion Democrats they can go after, but instead they want infighting.

And obviously, we are really going to have to work to protect Amash and Bentivolio.

According to PPP, Snyder's approval ratings have fallen since he passed the union reform bill (he'll be on the ballot in 2014):

Democrats lead the generic legislative ballot in the state by an amazing 56/32 margin, one of the most lopsided generic ballots we've ever seen in any state.

This could have a bad impact on Amash and Bentivolio in 2014. We need to start moneybombs for them as soon as possible.

We dont need to worry about Snyder, ours are in Republican districts. Snyder being on the ballot helps because conservatives will come out and vote for him .

We need to make sure Kerry has funds to scare off or withstand a primary challenger.

Maybe...just watch carefully though. Amash and Bentivolio didn't win by too huge of margins...we shouldn't second-guess the union's power. They will likely try to coerce their GOP union members to voting for Democrats.

Union members are only 17% of Michigan workers.

Their margins were small because it was a Democrat year. 2014 will likely be a Republican election, the 6th year of a presidency generally favors the opposition.

This tactic was used successfully against Cynthia McKinney.

Only because the local media is obsessing over the short timeline this thing was rammed through is Snyder's numbers down. I'm certainly not a big fan of his esp since he recently vetoed allowing CCW holders to carry weapons in VDA zones, which he probably did to satiate the moderates that are freaking over the RTW situation. People aren't properly educated on RTW and its benefits primarily because the tv and print media have a corner on our market.

Regarding our batman and robin, we should definitely campaign like we're 10 pts down but we'll still have solid chances to hang on to both of those seats. Depending on how our state convention goes this next year will determine how tough the establishment thinks they can roll.

I can't wait to see Kerry in office, been waiting for some time LOL. He will grow into that office I'm sure and start gaining conservative supporters in his district, with newsletters sent out and facebook postings of his voting. Let's see what things look like in 6 months to a year from now, and keep an eye on his voting and everything else. Exciting to see a regular guy get into congress.

We need to make sure Kerry has enough funds to scare off a primary challenge or be prepared for one.

I hope we can organize moneybombs during 2013 to make sure that is the case. Because otherwise he will be perceived as weak and ripe for a challenge by establishmentarians in Michigan.
