WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)—Men have finally regained the jobs they lost during the Great Recession, with their employment level in November surpassing where it was seven years ago, government data show.
On Friday the U.S. Labor Department released its latest monthly snapshot of the labor market, showing that men held 71 million nonfarm jobs in November, pushing past their employment level when the “hecession” or “mancession” started seven years ago. Women reclaimed their early-recession peak in employment last year.
“The jobs recovery in the United States is finally complete,” said Heidi Hartmann, president of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, a Washington-based think tank.
In November the U.S. economy added 321,000 jobs—the strongest monthly gain in almost three years. Men nabbed two-thirds of last month’s added jobs.
