As was discussed on CSPAN's Washington Journal this morning, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani thought it best
to NOT support the Republican Party of Iowa candidates at the state and local level
by their clever and crafty opting out of the Ames Straw Poll in August. Those Iowa GOP candidates will be returning the favor.

Regardless of the nationwide medias fixation on the results of the first hour's "secret ballot"
and it's perceived - real or imagined - importance everywhere else in the nation,
it will be over 5 months before Iowa actually elects its delegates - in early June -
for the nominating national convention in Minneapolis.

GOP candidates in the state of Iowa at both the local or state level will be
very complacent about Rudy or Mr. Amnesty - and Fred for that matter - over the next
several tiers of caucusing at the county, congressional district, and finally the state caucuses/convention.

Our ace photographer caught these responses from those two candidates on this
surprising news - to them .

And the guy on CSPAN this morning - Thomas Beaumont of the Des Moines Register and a Democrat - is just plain wrong about the GOP side -
it DOES matter if you support the Iowa GOP at Ames - always has.

Of the candidates still in the race, only Mitt and Huck did better than Ron Paul in Ames back in the summer.

I was just in Iowa and I think that McCain will surprise his signs were everywhere. Not as much as RP. Of course but respectable. Surprisingly, I saw no huckabee or Romney signs anywhere. If people are supporting these two they certainly are not hard core enough to put signs in thier yards. I think that there is the potential for a huge shake up in Iowa. I think RP and McCain will surpirse.

On the dem side I think that Edwards will surprise, come in first. Obama has lots of volunteers. We were leafleting cars in parking lots Casinos, churches, stores. We happened upon the Obama office in Davenport and there were lots of volunteers streaming out of the office. I think Clinton will come in third, by a surprising margin.

Here in northeast Iowa there is not a single McCain, Guiliani or Thompson sign to be found anywhere. Huck and RP have the most by far and then Rommel in a distant third. We'll do well, I guarantee it!
