McCain explains state pick

McCain also brushed aside questions about whether he will attempt to woo a noisy contingent of Ron Paul supporters to his side for the general election.

"We always welcome them, but there's some really fundamental differences between Congressman Paul and me on some fundamental issues," McCain said. "He wants to have an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. He espouses a lot of policies I don't agree with."

The Nevada Republican Party abruptly halted its state convention in April when Paul's supporters captured control in an effort to win delegates to the national convention. Paul supporters are embroiled in an effort to hold an insurgent convention on Saturday.

"I do know they had a very serious effort here to elect delegates from Nevada, but they didn't succeed in any of the other states," McCain said. "They tried very hard. We went to those state conventions and we were able to rebuff any effort they made to get delegates."

I feel I dislike him even more now.

Rebuff?

"I do know they had a very serious effort here to elect delegates from Nevada, but they didn't succeed in any of the other states," McCain said. "They tried very hard. We went to those state conventions and we were able to rebuff any effort they made to get delegates."

Fortunately for him, he did not explain just how they rebuffed any disenters.

Wow. I almost feel bad for McCain. I mean, he doesn't realize how many of those state conventions were turned into shams...

Then, I remember that he loves to pick one bogey and ignore any contributing factors. That isn't how life works.

Nothing is absolute. Everything happens because there is a collusion of occurances that all contribute to an outcome.

And he was one of the factors that led to Ron Paul's ostracism. He allowed the media to walk all over the Paulites.

QFT

I can't believe he had the gal to align himself with them and their efforts!!

On this I agree with McCain.

Hmmm... he makes it sound like we're at war...

That's certainly what happened in North Carolina, and while he's being semi-honest, he's also lying through his teeth. Not only did the McCain campaign try to "rebuff" efforts to get delegates, they made active efforts to subvert Party rules and strip away submissions of lists of delegates by Ron Paul representatives to be elected as delgates to the convention that RON PAUL WON FAIR AND SQUARE IN PRIMARIES!

McCain is evil. Period.

You feel bad for McCain? You act as if he would care if he knew...

Damn right. :D

Like the constitution, sound currency, individual rights, non-intervention, free-trade (as opposed to fair trade), strong borders, and free speech just to name a few.

Yet McCain has semi plagiarized (one of) Ron’s campaign slogans.

“Reform, Prosperity, and Peace.”

Sound familiar?

McCaiin's comments confirm how he would act as President to, from on high, backhandedly squash the Paul insurrection for freedom within the Republican Party. His losing badly in November, by contrast, would put him in a Bob Dole position of irrelevancy as far as influencing the GOP anymore. Go, Barr, and spoil the election, so the Revolution can begin in earnest!

I got to thinking more about his answer and I've come to the conclusion that McCain is a shitty politician, and I don’t mean that as a compliment.

A "good" politician would have said something like…

“Ron and I agree on many important issues. We both want peace in Iraq. What we differ in is how we go about achieving it."

"We both want sound currency, but I believe that we get there by reforming the tax code, eliminating waste and setting into motion policies that will promote investment and insure prosperity."

"We both want the constitution to be followed, so if elected I promise that I will only appoint Supreme Court justices that I believe will follow the rule of law."

"We are both lovers and defenders of freedom, that’s why as president I will be determined in my efforts to support our most valuable resources, our troops, in every way possible."

"So I would welcome his supporters to our side, as the alternative would be much worse from their perspective.”

Something like that coming from John McCain would all be pure bullshit and I realize that, but my point is he couldn’t even come up with something even remotely similar.

"Good" politicians (which is an oxymoron, I know) have the ability to BS on their feet.

I think McCain is losing it.

Ron Paul is a shitty politician too. But in his case, I mean that as a compliment.

The more votes Barr gets in November, and the more his vote total exceeds Obama's margin of victory over McCain, the stronger Ron Paul's position will be in the post-election RP.
