My City Wichita, Kansas had a cop strike back in the late 1970's. There was a distinct drop in crime during the strike and the local donut/coffee shops saw a 10% drop in business. Bottomline the barney brigade was hardly missed.

Bloomberg does not care about the safety of Americans, otherwise he would not propose this.

Cops do not protect people.
What are you going to do if someone bust into your house right now armed to the teeth looking to loot your dwelling... you going to call a cop or grab you gun and cap the fool?
if you chose option 1- you and your family is dead, and the cops show up to do their real job(thanks for the notice)- which is to work crime scenes, gather evidence on behalf of the state and to extort money out of people, usually through highway banditry.
if you chose option 2- you realize that the firearm in your house is your only real defense, you kill the a-hole who is trying to do you harm, then you can call the police to work the crime scene.

nope just memories of the time 1978 & early 1979 if memory serves. Wichita Eagle (the local newspaper) has articles in archive but I got my info from a local Constitutionalist of the time who gathered the data independently. The Eagle would never fess up that Citizens protecting their own were more effective than the absent barney's.

There was a police strike in Montreal Canada in 1969 that saw riots and looting. New York City had a wildcat police strike in 1971 for 5 days, but after digging a little can not find out if crime increased. I would think if it was noticeable that the news somewhere would have recorded it.
