Marijuana reform initiatives on the ballot in 2014 -- Official Results Thread

Well, thanks Florida. You prove yet again that you are a grab-bag mix of all the worst from the north and the south. Hard to accomplish such a feat.

Florida is a shit hole. People really don't care about freedom. Stupid fucks. I lived there for 10+ years. Full of fucking idiots. The freedom lovers are always a minority vote.

The medical marijuana initiative in Florida did better than the polls were saying it would do.

here is some of the boogity-boogity evil weed propaganda hitting the airwaves in Florida (thanks to Sheldon Adelson)

Why is there a cop talking shit against Medical MJ??? Don't cops always say, "Hey I don't make the laws, I just enforce them. I'm just doing my job. If you don't like the law, change it!"

So if that's their mantra, WTF is this guy doing scaring the fuck out of people from changing the law???

Piece of shit FLORIDA.

Ok, it's still close overall - but most of the votes left to count are here in Multnomah County where Portland is... and as expected "Yes" is dominating:

Good for Oregon. It's only a matter of time. State by state it's coming.

This is awesome. It especially makes me laugh because there was an article not too long ago about Cops in Oregon pulling over any WA plates to search them for MJ. Instead of SPEED traps, they were basically MJ traps. Bastards.

But now that revenue stream is closing, and they won't be able to pull over random drivers with WA plates anymore for probably cause of drugs.

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Fail. Lost revenue for those fuckers.

War on Drugs fail.

California should start a Marijuana Legalization Equal Tax Act where regular old sales tax applies and there are no other restrictions besides 18 age limit. It would be realistic and supportable.

It's already very available and largely unenforced.

The only thing that sucks is that Federal 280E anti-tax loop thing we all just learned about...nullify?

DC looks to be winning...

In yet another blow to the United States' decades-long war on drugs, the nation's capital has legalized recreational marijuana, NPR and USA Today reported Tuesday night.

Washington, D.C., voters on Tuesday approved Initiative 71, which legalizes adult marijuana use, possession of up to two ounces and home cultivation of up to six marijuana plants for personal use. With 29 percent of votes in, 68 percent of District residents supported the measure, and 31 percent were opposed.

(snip)

Now that voters have approved the measure, the bill moves to Congress for a mandatory review period by lawmakers in January. Congress has 60 days to review all new laws in the District, and if there is no interference the measure could go into effect in early 2015. However, Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) has vowed to put a stop to the progression of the bill in Congress.

(what's your problem andy???)

Alaska is early but showing good results:

[Update: Only 23 percent of precincts in Alaska have checked in, but so far 54 percent of voters have voted in favor of passing Measure 2.]

Sheldon Adelson Donates Another $1.5 Million to Anti-Medical Marijuana Group

By Chris Joseph
Fri., Oct. 3 2014 at 1:05 PM

With a net worth of $37 billion, casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, has donated another $1.5 million to the No On 2 campaign (or, Drug Free Florida) -- the biggest medical marijuana opposition in the state.

He had helped kick off the campaign when he donated $2.5 million to get things started back in June.

The 80-year-old Adelson, who has been a big-time contributor to conservative campaigns throughout his life, is chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which runs the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas.

He has also funded drug addiction clinics in Nevada and Israel and believes pot to be a gateway drug.

The big donation comes right after No On 2's recent ad attacking medical marijuana legalization by claiming that Amendment 2 has a loop hole in it's care giver provision that would allow anyone -- including felons and drug dealers -- to become caregivers:

FUCK!

Why do conservatives hate freedom so much?

Every R is out there saying, "Boogedity Boogedity Marijuana!!!" Make it all illegal!!!!!!!!!

And why do liberals that want freedom so badly want the state to control all their freedoms for them?

Because they both believe in freedom right up until it involves something/someone they don't like.

Pretty sure this is the first local candidate/measure that actually went the way I wanted.

I don't even personally smoke so this won't directly affect me, but it's obviously a great win for personal liberty and against the war on drugs.

Since I don't smoke I'm gonna drink this tasty celebratory brew I just picked up and toast to Sheldon Adelson.

I still think Cascadia should secede (even with the uber-socialistic mindset, we'd probably do ok due to the peace preference). we'll take a bit of northern California (Lk. Shasta) and allow AK to join (Hawaii as well). the biggest question is whether or not we'll qualify for the 2018 World Cup....

good on Oregon, the 2015 MLS Cannabis Cup (DC, Colorado, Portland, Seattle) will be exciting.

I would have been very happy with just Oregon and Washington D.C. legalizing marijuana based on the polls leading up to election day but to have Alaska come out on top was a big surprise and totally fucking awesome. Statewide marijuana legalization initiatives are now 5 for 6 in the last 2 elections and the only one that failed was Oregon in 2012 which then passed in 2014 by a double digit margin. Even in Florida where medical marijuana lost you can't really say the voters rejected it when 57% of the people voted for it. 2016 is going to be very exciting as these initiatives typically do better in presidential election years, it could be a tidal wave year for marijuana reform at the ballot box.
