How’s this for role reversal: Marco Rubio says he’d vote against a plan from Rand Paul, his colleague in the U.S. Senate and a potential presidential primary rival, to authorize the use of military force in the Middle East.

It’s not quite what it seems. Rubio, who has proven to be among the most hawkish lawmakers, said he opposed Paul’s proposal because it—like two similar plans from senators being considered by the Foreign Relations Committee—attempts to micromanage the military and would unwittingly aid U.S. enemies.

Are you referring to yourself? Just because Marco Rubio and John McCain disagrees with Rand doesn't excuse the fact that people like you shit in your pants because the media told you to. Do you remember some of the fear peddling you were throwing around here during that time? What was it you said? ISIS would shut down the Strait of Hormuz and gas prices will rise so high that no one would ever be able to travel again? If we don't attack ISIS, our civil liberties would be taken away? If we don't attack ISIS, they would take over the entire region? It is okay if we kill civilians because we would be doing it to protect civilians?

Who sounds like the neo-con there? So I'll try to explain to you again. Just because Marco Rubio is against Rand Paul's bill DOESN'T make it okay to go around fear mongering about ISIS. If Marco Rubio suddenly agrees and votes on Rand Paul's bill, would that make Rand Paul a neo-con in your eyes then? Why does Marco Rubio's decision on how he votes matter so much to you? I was just making the point that one isn't a neocon if they don't take a hardcore anti government position on all national security issues. I get tired of the idea that there can never be any nuance at all on foreign policy/national security issues. I get tired of the idea that we have to fit within this tiny little box all the time, and if we dare to think outside the box we have people who tell us that we're no longer part of the movement. I get tired of hardcore libertarians telling me that I'm some warmonger because I don't oppose every single war that we've ever been involved in. I get tired of people claiming that Rand is some neocon warmonger because he doesn't think that every war should be opposed. I believe in the idea of actually thinking for yourself and not feeling like you should just have to take certain positions because you have to take those positions in order to be a member of a certain group.

The sad thing is, Rubio is much smarter than the politician he portrays himself as. I went to school at UCF in florida from 2009-2012, and I remember being handed a Rubio bumper sticker (which I proudly showed off on my laptop, btw) when I was a freshman in 2009, well before anybody even knew who he was. I liked the guy a lot at the beginning and thought he really was on the side of Liberty. We knew all along he was somewhat of a Neo Con, but around this time the Tea Party was SEEMING to be coming out of its Bush-doctrine coma and recognizing the errors of their ways. I thought Rubio would straddle the middle and be more friendly to a new age of thinking, but he's basically been McCain in the body of a 40-ish year old Cuban. I can't believe anyone still talks about him for President, though, as Rubio has basically gone from a GOP rising star to being completely irrelevant on the national stage. Maybe why he's sucking up to the Bush family.... Boy it would be a heck of a shame to watch Rubio endorse Jeb Bush over Rand in 2016 after years of leading us to believe he was better than that.
