Mainstream Republican candidate killer question for Politico debate. Comment here

I like this one a lot:

USA Today has said that we will need to obtain $58 Trillion by 2040 to cover our current and future debts. Our future debt will total about $400,000 per household, I for one do not have this kind of money. David Walker, Comptroller General of the United States, says that we "face a tsunami of spending due to the retirement of the baby boomers, and every year we don't act the number goes up $2-3 Trillion." If elected President, how will you do major reducing in spending? (Sorry John McCain, just cutting pork barrel will not be nearly enough)

Bump

I'd like to get confirmation that they'll actually use these, but either way it can't hurt to vote decent questions to the top of most popular.

Question #2 needs help. It's at #60.

"In the Florida debate Senator McCain said "we have American troops all over the world today and nobody complains about it because we are defending freedom. Thats one of the obligations of being the worlds super power." Do the rest of you agree with Senator McCain and if so, what amount of taxpayer money will you allocate for this obligation? Do you believe that a majority of American taxpayers also feel this obligation and want to fund the defense of freedoms across the world, while we loose our own."

We ALREADY HAVE THE MOST POPULAR QUESTION FOR THE DEBATE - see #1 in the 'most popular' section. If you havent voted for it, please do so now to make sure it stays at #1
Heres why..
Q1
1.) The war on terror has no end state. It is a perpetual war. It cannot be won militarily because the more of them we kill, the more spring up, multiplied several times over. History proves that every war against a terrorist network has played out this way.
2.) To admit the war is perpetual is political suicide - they will not admit it. They will say - it will take as long as it will take. People will realize theres no end in sight for this. RP will make that clear when he answers the question.
3.) The key point of the question is the wars financial impact on our economy. No candidate except RP can answer this question without stepping over themselves. If they say the war is not a drain on the economy - the MSM will kill them. If they say it is, they are done.

A LOT of thought went into these questions. They is specifically designed to (a) touch two hot button issues - the economy and the war, (b) not be an overtly blatant RP questions (even though we might see it that way) and (c) ensure that candidates who didnt answer the question are exposed.

WIN RON WIN

While it is obvious that you have put considerable thought in your questions, if I had the opportunity to have all the candidates boxed into one room to ask a singular question, I would ask them all the following, knowing that only Dr. Paul could honestly answer:

Question: So that all american people can be assured that the Congress has not violated any provision of the constitution relating to the war in Iraq, without any political rhetoric, and with specificity, provide the Article, Section and Clause which authorizes the congress to delegate its' power, either by waiver or vote, to declare war, to any other branch of government under THAT constitution.

If there is no specific Article, Section or Clause authorizing congress to vest its' enumerated war power to another branch of government, then any one of those in congress who by waiver or vote, agreed to authorize the executive branch to wage war has acted ultra vires, outside their office and thereby without constitutional authority and vacated their office...Those lunkheads are outta there...they can pack their bags and mail them home and standby to answer for their constitutional breach of office and oaths...

What I suggest the foregoing question does precludes the question of when the so-called perpetual war ends and the economics of the war...Because it is a question having its root in the Constitution (as Dr. Paul rightly points out) the 'war' must immediately end, troops home, ending all costs associated...end of story...

While this may be over-simplified I am sure all get the gist of why I feel it is necessary to back it up to a constitutional question and not one that can be easily skirted by opinion and political rhetoric...

Any thoughts are welcomed....

I don't believe we should bump up the question trying to belittle Senator McCain because the establishment supports McCain and they wouldn't try to insult him in anyway.

I still voted for it though and lets hope its used in a debate!

How about some questions that really put the others in the hot seat. For example:

Romney's involvement in Bain Capital and their recent purchase of Clear Channel Communications (media conglomerate that owns craploads of media outlets). I'm not sure how the question would go, but maybe ask him about what his involvement with that company will be in the future.

Or maybe ask him why we should trust that he will be able to run things like a country, with the people's best interests in mind rather than a company that bends to the whims of the "shareholders" otherwise known as lobbyists and special interest.

John McCain and his involvement in the Keating Five Scandal from the 80s. Question could be trust and judgement related.

Huckabee's statement about changing the constitution to be in God's terms or why he flip-flopped on the national smoking ban (now saying that it's a state issue)

And for Rudy: Why are the firemen from New York so upset at you?

Love your question! Can I suggest

rewording it to make it simpler for the average voter. The point you are making is that the war is unconstitutional - and thats what RP has been saying. The problem is that most people dont have a clue about the constitution and dont question the actions of congress or the President. They could simply say that this war was approved like the past 3 were and people would think - oh it must be ok then. We have violated the constitution for so long now, I dont think the average American knows or cares.

I think its KEY for us to post questions that the average voter can relate to and be shaken up by. Like the cost of the war and its impact on his pocket book. Like not feeling a moral obligation to police the world but having to fund it. There are obviously a lot of great questions like these we can pose - and I hope we do. I worry that we pose questions that we as RP supporters consider so clear and logical but the average voter doesnt really care.

All this being said, Im happy to vote up the question if you have posted it.

Thoughts welcome.

I like your questions - the have several things going for them.
1.) They are short and easy to digest
2.) They arent easily associated with RP
3.) They will get general support and will get voted up that way

Please post and start a thread - I'll vote for them and help spread the word.

Thanks for voting for the questions we posted. I hope you voted for both of them.

All that is in our hands (unfortunately) is to get really good questions to the top, for the sake of the country. Im sad to say but most of the top 30 questions are completely insignificant given whats happening to this country. People are worried about space exploration while our country is being destroyed from within.

I say, have faith. Lets do our part and hope for the best. Reaching out for the impossible, no matter what the odds are - isnt that what this campaign is about on a day to day basis?

Help vote up the questions. Without your help and every other RP supporter here, we will not even get our questions to the top of the list, where they are more likely to get asked.

Thanks..

Why on EARTH are we picking a question on Iraq????

UNDERSTAND THIS: REPUBLICANS HATE RON PAUL'S STANCE ON IRAQ!!!

They LIKE him when he talks about TAXES and the CONSTITUTION.

Jesus wept, do you honestly think he will pick up votes from Republicans by saying he will take all troops out of Iraq immediately?? And dont say we're trying to get the Independant/Democrat vote, because as proven in Michigan- that doesn't work.

Please, vote on any question about TAXES and the CONSTITUTION!!

Fair question - I will try and do my best to articulate my thoughts.

1.) It is not an Iraq question - it is a Foreign Policy question
2.) Do most Republicans believe that it is Americas moral obligation as a super power to defend freedom all over the world, on their dollar?
3.) Even if we do (which we do not IMHO), can we afford to?

RP is the only one saying that we cannot separate foreign policy, the war and the economy. This question reinforces that and forces the other candidates to acknowledge that or go out on a limb (as Im hoping McCain will do) and say that most Americans feel the moral obligation. I think that will at least alienate some portion of his supporters - even if its 5% its significant. It will also make some portion of voters who are not for RP today think more seriously about him.

Thoughts?
