Yeah, that makes no sense?
WHy would you go to a caucus, and then leave before the vote?
You didn't realize what a marathon it is. Perhaps another speech from another state rep candidate would make your head explode?
I learned here on Ronpaulforums.com that we, the grassroots, do what we ENJOY. I was arguing with someone here, last summer, about the merits of a particular plan. I don't remember exactly what it was about. I probably thought the idea was pointless or inefficient or harmful, or a creative mixture of all 3.
"But we enjoy doing that. You can't get volunteers to do what they don't enjoy."
And that "enjoy" attitude is right at the heart of the whole thing.
"You, volunteer, or "rogue volunteer", need to find a whole lot of voters real quick because there are not enough in this building for Ron Paul to win and you need to do it right now. Find them, and do whatever it takes to get them here."
"I enjoy sign waving. How about Sign Waving? I could argue with a Santorum supporter right here. It's warm. I like it here. How about I just stay and do nothing? Maybe I can stand behind the table and talk about Ron Paul?"
Point being, if we, strong grassroots supporters, can't do what we don't enjoy, imagine how someone who just "likes Ron Paul" and doesn't know what he's in for is going to react to 2! Full! Hours! of! Speeches!
Ron Paul is a Rockstar. These caucuses are a Glenn Miller cover band. I had trouble myself. I can imagine someone who has not dedicated so much time, money, whatever to Ron Paul is going to do when faced with a non stop barrage of boring don't care. They just don't care as much as we do. It's a continuum. It's not that Ron Paul supporters are that hardcore, on average, it's just that they don't like anybody but Paul. They don't have a second choice. 2nd choice is not figure out when the election is. Not running the gauntlet of speeches. I can imagine many many people not liking anything about those caucuses. But, some do. Around 1% of the population attends a Republican Caucus here in Maine. And that's fine. If the Maine GOP wants to reward the most dedicated, the most willing to withstand 2 hours of speeches, advantage Paul. We do endure this. Not all, apparently (or maybe that wasn't a Paul supporter), but more than the other candidates.
What we should do, if this is possible, is when we get control of a town committee, or whatever position or organization that decides where the caucus should be, change the time and venue to one that is most comfortable to our base. And offensive to their base. Set break at a Converge show.
I'd like to get a warm Knox County welcome for chaotic metalcore legends Converge. Converge will be taking a short break whenever they feel like it, and we'll have our preference poll and delegate vote after that. You're welcome to leave. Be sure you're back whenever Converge decides to take a break though, the voting will start immediately after.
