"We corrected all that on Monday, in our internal paperwork. And it changed the totals a little bit in favor of Romney," Webster said.

"It increased his number by a little bit. We'll be sending that out today," the chairman added.

He's up above 194 now," Webster said. "By a little bit, by not a significant number."

Webster did clarify one question that's fueled speculation.

"Absolutely no recount," the chairman said. "There's no way to recount. These were just slips of paper that were thrown away after."

"There's nothing to recount. There's no ballots left," he added.

then how did he count them if they were thrown away?

still, this is kinda what I figured would happen, given he first refused to even put in towns and correct proven bad info. We need open results at the caucuses going forward.

And what are the emails he's talking about that went into the spam folder....

What a f****** crook

And what about the vote differences that ben swann found in favor of ron paul?

If you just throw away the papers then whose to say the person reporting the numbers did not cook the vote? Without checks and balances the vote count is open to people fudging the numbers

Oh my. The Paul campaign ought to make this Webster fellow their poster child for what happens when government is anything less than transparent. The goofy look on his face has to help.

Isn't just throwing away the ballots outside of procedure? If not something needs to be revised there. Beyond that if they are just slips of paper what about the e-mails et al? His statements don't even add up with each other (but I'm sure he'd say my pointing that out is some "conspiracy theory" and/or "personal attack" by someone who "doesn't even know him").

Not that I'm surprised he's continuing to demonstrate the same level of competence and integrity now has he has thus far :P just a shame (or is that sham? ;) ) that his actions aren't getting more scrutiny and censure.

If I were Webster I would just STFU. The more he says the worse it makes the situation and the more obvious it becomes that they cheated.

That said, I hope he keeps talking. Lies will eventually fold on themselves and the truth will come out.

Assuming the vote was altered in Maine, Webster had all week to identify caucus locations that keep their results secret from those who turned out. Out of those locations he need only find chairman sympathetic to Romney. With that information the GOP can offset any gains for Paul in a theoretical recount. This is all theater and should have been expected. Saturday's vote is all that matters.

I don't know if there really was any fraud involved, but I agree that his words seem to make things worse.

Does anyone have any tweets or know of any confirmations in Portland. The results were initially reported 91 Mitt and 106 Paul, but Webster says those are backwards. If that's the case it puts us in the hole 30 votes more

So what the hell is the law as it relates to election fraud?? Shouldn't there be a police officer going to his house right now to pick up him? I mean WTF is going on here? Shouldn't the authorities be investigating this? Or are they too busy pulling people over for speeding or putting people in jail for smoking marijuana?

Without a paper trail or any knowledge of who reported the vote count the Maine GOP could report that the final vote total in Portland was Mitt: 106 Paul: Blue Santorum: 50 Gingrich: 10 and we wouldn't know any different.

This is what I've been worried about all along. All the mistakes we found in publicly available information helped Paul. Sounds like all the "mistakes" they are finding behind closed doors are helping Romney. They've had about a week since this blew up to find ways to cover their tracks and fudge the numbers in ways that would be difficult to detect. What makes it worse is that before the main reason to do it was favoritism for Romney. Now they have that reason in addition to trying to make this sound like it was blown out of proportion because it didn't change the outcome anyway. These results need to be overlooked closely for anything that doesn't add up...

Even if there is no way to make fraud allegations stick, this guy should be ousted for sheer incompetence.
