The Maine Republican Party is at it again. After all the antics we went through during the Ron Paul presidential campaign with the caucus and convention, they're at it again. National Delegate Bryan Daugherty, who also ran Mark Willis's campaign against Reince Priebus for RNC chair, ran for Penobscot County chair. He lost to former U.S. Senate candidate Deb Plowman.
The loss was not fair though. The bylaws were suspended illegally, proxies were mishandled, votes were accepted by phone, and it was an incredible mess. One individual who was spotted at our State Convention handing out fake slates was on the ground outside the Penobscot meeting and election, making phone calls the entire time. Some speculate he was calling in people to vote, although it is not completely confirmed as of yet.
I wrote about this for my Bangor Daily News blog Undercover Porcupine. Check the article, "The Penobscot Heist: When Republicans Play Like Democrats"
I have a follow up going out on Tuesday, titled "Penobscotgate"
We've already had one State Committeemember resign over this mess and a couple more seriously considering following.
The appeal that was sent in regarding the election was rejected by the State, claiming that the individual had no grounds to appeal. If only Jan Staples and Peter Cianchette (who filed the delegation challenge) had filed it instead!
We will be rolling out a Facebook campaign in the near future to turn up the heat, tentatively titled "We Are The Unaffected", in reference to their dismissal of Ken Anderson's appeal.
They're not going to give up power easy. The liberty movement is going through hell all over again in the Republican Party.
