Machita- Rashad

I'm a huge MMA fan. Definitely an interesting fight. Machida (spelled with a "d" for future reference) really brought his best game. He usually takes control of a fight, but he really poured it on here. He's made me a fan as long as he keeps up what he did last night and doesn't go back to his previous game of completely avoiding the other guy altogether for a decision.

Is that official?

Yes, Dana White twittered it right after the fight.

Chuck liddell 5 years ago vs machita would of been a good match :P.

I always thought Chuck Liddell was over rated. He's a great fighter. He has heavy punches and very good take down defense, but I always thought when he held the belt that there were many guys in Pride that could have beat him, or even in the UFC, but Dana didn't let them fight. Liddell was marketable whereas others were not as much. He's a very good fighter, but this is speculation on my part, so take it for what it is.

That first round sucked. What, were there a total of 4 blows landed in the entire first round?

You both are wrong, and couldn't be more wrong. The first round was great, kept you on the edge of your seat waiting for someone to explode. And Machida did that one time and hit Evans pretty hard a couple times in that one exchange. And, I'm a huge fan of Machida's fighting style. I didn't really see him doing anything different this fight than any other. He was elusive, and when he attacked it was with pin point precision. He doesn't "avoid them altogether". Rather he waits for the right time to strike and usually explodes when appropriate. The key to his fighting style is avoiding damage, and he accomplishes that with ease.

I'm always bothered by UFC fans who don't appreciate the art of fighting and just want to see a barn burner. Don't get me wrong, I love a good slug fest. One of my favorite fights is Don Frye Vs. Yoshihiro Takayama in Pride, absolutely amazing. However, I can appreciate all fighting styles and hate it when the crowd boos a good fight that is maybe going slower than they would wish. Annoys the hell out of me.

I don't know about that. He beat people like Randy Couture and Jeremy Horn when they were in their prime.

Yeah.
I think Chuck would have knocked Machida out 5 years ago.
I certainly believe he would have caught Rashad.
We'll never know though.
Elite fighters twilight at different ages but they never seem to know it themselves until they drop several fights.
That's the bad thing.
What about that Brandon Vera?
I believe he's fighting at 205 now.
That would be a really good fight with his aggressiveness vs Lyoto Machida's elusive counter striking.
I'm pretty sure Machida will frustrate Rampage badly.

Liddel is 39 years old now, so yeah his time has passed.

“[Fighting at 205 pounds] is an experience we are doing for several reasons, and one of them is a request from Dana White…. I don’t have a desire to fight in this category and am only doing it because I was asked and I think I can. I have no desire to dispute this belt because Lyoto has already proven that it belongs to him. I am taking this fight because I like to fight and I like the challenges.”

Sorry guys, Machida-Silva is not going to happen.

There is almost no one I hate worse than Vera (besides maybe those diaz retards)... His attitude sucks, he isn't that great of a fighter, either.

I used to watch fight girls....his wife was competing. She had a HORRIBLE attitude and he came over and trained with her and they acted identical. They are both spoiled brats who think they are the greatest. UGH.

If the powers that be at the UFC want it to happen, it will happen. Not anytime soon, but never say never.

Yeah yeah.
He can beat Machida though.
Just saying, would make a great fight, much better than watching Machida torture Rampage.

True, however, I don't see it happening either. For two reasons, the UFC isn't like Pride was where catch weight and open weight fights were common, nor is coming up or going down weights all that common anymore (another thing I miss about Pride). At least not like it used to be. Second reason is Silva announced that he is retiring after his current contract is expired. If I remember correctly that's 3 or 4 fights from his last one. I think he wants to spend that time defending his title and not chasing another title. But, it could happen, you never know. I just think it's highly unlikely.

He can beat Machida though.

I can beat Machida. As long as he has his hands tied behind his back and his legs bound and he's given a bunch of drugs that make him slow and weak. I think Machida will be champ for a while, and I don't think Vera could beat him unless he got a lucky punch in.

Randy Couture beat Liddell in Couture's prime and Jeremy Horn beat Liddell in Horn's prime, or close to. I don't think either were in their prime when Liddell beat them. Right after Couture's second loss to Liddell he moved up to a slower less competitive weight class. That kind of tells me something right there.

Randy Couture could beat Machida to, even now.
Vera won't need any handicap vs. Machida dude.
That fight will likely happen.
Don't get me wrong, I Like Machida, I dislike Vera.

I don't think Couture would beat Machida unless he figures out how to exploit Machida's style and figures out a way to capitalize on it. One of the main aspects of Randy's style is to push forward until he presses his opponent against the cage and punishes his opponents there. I just think Machida is too quick and elusive for that. He would easily scramble away, and punish Couture as he does so.

I'm indifferent on Vera. I don't care for his personality but that doesn't hinder my judgment of him as a fighter. Fact is, he's lost his last three big fights. That doesn't bode very well. Or maybe it's a mental thing and his last loss against Jardine (which was very close) has made him come back and work harder. But maybe not. We won't know until he is put up against a top fighter again. I think if he came to the fight on top of his game it would be a great matchup, but I still think Machida would beat him.

Vera should have stayed heavyweight. Why the hell did he drop down anyway? I don't remember him losing any fights at heavyweight.

Couture is 45 years old now...

Id like to see hughes come up to 205 :P. I think you need an absolute brutal agressive fighter to beat machida.

Because of that new guy lol.
The one with ham hocks for hands and a neck like an oak tree.
Lesnar.

Matt Hughes is one of the few fighters I think who might be able to accomplish it. I don't know if brutal aggression is smart with Machida though, unless you can match his quickness, otherwise you're gonna get caught. But if Hughes could stay smart, composed, avoid damage, press when it's smart to press, and maybe get him on the ground, keep him there, and ground and pound he may be able accomplish it. But it's also important to remember the weight he gains to move up will make him slower and Machida is super quick, super smart, very economical with his strikes, and a black belt in two disciplines in martial arts. I really think he will be champ for some time.

Matt Hughes fights at 170. He could go up to 205, but I guess he'd have to eat a few Whoppers to get there.

I know what he fights at. And, didn't say he couldn't go up. But, it's going to slow him down considerably.

He would be a serious powerhouse at 205.

Also i don't think i have seen machida on the ground much.. I seriously doubt anyone is going to beat him at his own game. Standing up and striking. Rashad Evans saw how well that worked out.

If hughes came up to 205 he would be incredibly stout and hard to knock down. His lower center of gravity would give him a grappling advantage. He might have to take a few hits to get inside, but i have no doubt he could take him to the ground given the chance.
