Los Angeles is Burning!!!

^^^ that or, it could be another way to artificially keep house
prices propped up.

... also I heard that AIG is a big insurer of those houses in the
Montecito area. These are multi-million $ luxury houses, not to
mentioned many hundred-thousand dollar luxury cars parked
in their garages.

I haven't been effected :[. Though the skies do seem a lot darker than usual, must be from the fires.

And it did rain! For 30 hole seconds! Like a week ago. or two.

Yes, nothing to be smiling about you asshole.

The air quality throughout all of SoCal has been terrible. Theres been a lingering shroud of ash and smoke covering the sky as well. Contrary to popular belief, not all the houses that have been burned down are multi-millionaire dollar homes. I was watching the news this morning and I saw about 1/3 of a entire mobile home park got wiped out.

Why aren't they mobile? :[ would help in situations like this.
fire is still going on.

So is California going to have to pay a 'carbon tax' on all that burning they have going on?

Seem all of those fires have put more CO2 into the atmosphere than all of the industry put together.

Southern California has been fighting fires for what? 50+ years? And they still can't do shit to prevent fires from spreading. I mean fire season is usually only two months long meaning that all the big fires in the past several years happen in October or November. There always seems to be a mad dash once these fires spring up and escalate to put them out. Why aren't planes patrolling southern california day in and day out 24hrs a day for these two months looking for fires? Why hasn't SoCal invested in twice as many fire fighting planes and helicopters so that they can just ambush these fires with water/phos check/whatever? Why hasn't SoCal poured millions of dollars into new fire fighting technology? The richest state in the world is way behind when it comes to fighting fires. Money? LOL! This state is a fucking joke! If the geography wasn't so beautiful I'd move.

Also why hasn't SoCal invested in desalination? Middle Eastern countries can do it but SoCal can't? Gimme a break! Everybody in this stupid area has been too busy making money in the last 5 years instead of trying to focus on the problems that plague this state. As usual.

Sorry if my addition of a little grinning smiley upset you, and I undersatand the seriousness of the situation, but did you watch the video or listen to the lyrics. LiveFree79 (quoted below) explained it pretty well...Esp. when it's an ongoing media spectacle every year, why haven't the people that live/build there put in systems to reduce the probablity of the possible fires from wreaking so much havoc. Yes, its a geographical phenomenom much like hurricanes are where I live but its an accepted reality. Deal with it the best you can and if you can :D while dealing with the gravity of seriousness, I say your much better off.

BTW, most keynesian's will look at this as a + for the building industry in the area. I bet you some of them are :D -ing in a 'creative destruction' kinda way.

I think the video sums it up this way:

While all this is happening we're more concerned about Brittney Spear's sister and her pregnacy. I mean really, is Snoop Dogg ok? what does one wear during an evacuation? How much hair dye is too much? oh and buy one get one free...ugh.

Black Hole Sun has come.

This is one of the points I make when debating about commercial clearcutting: The state allows thousands of acres of forest a year to burn down. So why is a bad thing when a logging company clearcuts a forest on government land? The state wont solve the problem and we wont run out of oxygen because of a lack of trees.

very very funny.....

Not to be confused with motor homes. I don't know if mobile homes was the correct term for these structures, but their like pre-fab houses that don't have a foundation.

Don't get me wrong about Cali politics though, we have our priorities all wrong. Just this past election we voted yes on Prop. 1A Safe, Reliable High-Speed Train Bond Act (first in the nation ) yet voted no on Prop. 5 Nonviolent Drug Offense Sentencing, Parole, Rehab.

Prop. 5 was the only proposition that would of saved the state money by freeing up prison space by sending nonviolent drug offenders to rehab facilities and downgrading possession of an ounce or less of marijuana from a misdemeanor to an infraction. And when I say "we" I am referring to the the largely uninformed CA electorate.

They do invest in firefighting technology, and they do monitor situations very closely. They even use satellite technology to find fires. The problem is these Santa Anas, which are a blessing for me as a surfer:

blow the hot dry desert winds, which were blowing 50-60 mph in Santa Barbara when our fire started, will take a small fire and throw it all over the place in less than a half-hour. Within an hour the fire line was miles long. That isn't always enough time to mobilize and knock it out right away. It's all about the conditions.

I did hear an interview where the police chief was saying that they have knocked out over 100 brush fires before they ever became a problem, and they have very sophisticated technology, but there just isn't much you can do with these fires when you have the conditions we've had.

Ya, they're trying to make one in Carlsbad (San Diego County) but the environmentalists are concerned about how they are doing it (I probably agree with the environmentalists, but I am quite sure there is a way to mediate the environmental problems)

I highly doubt it's "thousands" of acres, do you have references? And if you go to Sequioa National Park you would understand the difference between clear cutting and letting forests burn down. The Sierras actually NEED fire to maintain the ecosystem. This is necessary, clear cutting is not. Big difference.
