moving on up!
Actually that $140 is round trip, not one way. That really isn't that bad of a deal. But the one coming through Atlanta from Miami for $200 can be beat by sharing gas cost by two people in an economical car.
You mention that 2 people could get to the Rally cheaper in an econominal car from Atlanta? =2260/30*4.75 You are correct. If you had a vehicle that got 30mpg and spent $4.75 per gallon or less, and drove NO in-town miles whatsoever, two people could get to MN from Atlanta for about $360 - $180 each.
Anyone know how expensive it is to get a cab from the rally to the airport? I may end up taking the Ronvoy to MN, but getting a flight home...
My rough guesstimate would be over a hundred bucks.
Ugh...this isn't looking good for me...![]()
I'll take you to the airport. You may have to squeeze into the child-sized so-called back seat, but if you're leaving by the Sixth and especially if you fly out in the morning, I can take you in on the way to sight-see. Unless you get a better offer (otherwise known as same offer, bigger back seat).
We are in the process of adding routes as we go...and I expect the Ronvoy coming right FROM Atlanta will be less expensive than the one coming from Miami. But, that is the route that the MIAMI route is taking, through Atlanta.
PLUS - it does help that Atlanta has one of the largest airports in the nation, with flights that connect from nearly every airline. If I lived in Atlanta, I would definitely check out flights into MN. But that's me.
By the way, as Torchbearer said, this is a vehicle to get more people to the Rally for the Republic. A slightly larger vehicle would mean that 4 people, for instance, could go for $90 each. BUT, if you have a vehicle that gets 30mpg, it also likely only HOLDS two people.
We are trying to get the LARGEST number of Ron Paul supporters ever to attend the Rally for the Republic in MN. The best vehicles for this purpose are not 2-seaters. They are vans, at a minimum.
So, these are the per person rates for people to take the Ronvoy. And, anyone who was around for the Revolution March might remember that for the final two weeks, the vans were even reduced further by the companies we booked with. We had multiple routes who were around $100 when all was said and done.
And, there were also families who took the children on the Ronvoys to the march. Apparently $100 per person was cheaper than the option of flying those same four or six people to DC. It was also cheaper than the train. Or greyhound. And, much more convenient, because with a rental van, all travelers can work together to plan when to stop, or if someone has to go to the restroom or whatever. And, if someone just needs to run down to the store from the hotel, or whatever, they can do that with the Ronvoy vehicle. With a flight, or a train, or a bus, that option is NOT there, at all.
So, I think the $140 for Raleigh, for instance, is a GREAT option. And I'm absolutely convinced we will sell them.
So, stay tuned! We are now working on the group cabin campgrounds for Minneapolis! I think your are going to LOVE this plan, which is going to include lodging and all meals (but fortunately, a staff, and not myself, will be doing the preparation!).
Soon to be announced - the Revolution Campgrounds!
Talk to you all soon!

Thanks for the offer! I may end up not going, though...the person I was supposed to share expenses with may not be able to get off of work those days, and I'm practically broke!
I'll see how this pans out....
Where is gas $4.75 a gallon now?
It is about $3.75 a gallon here now. My car gets about 33MPG, the distance to Minneapolis is about 1140 miles from where I live, so it comes to $259.10 total for the round trip from Atlanta. Which would be $129.55 each if gas costs were shared by two people.
You are right about the plane tickets to Minneapolis from Atlanta being good deals. I can get one there for $279 round trip including taxes and fees. If I can't find anyone to ride with me and share gas cost then flying would probably be my best option unless that Ronvoy from Atlanta looks good. I don't mind paying a little more to fly considering the time it would save in traveling by car or bus though.
Ricky,
Just so you are aware, we are including enough fuel for people to be able to use these vehicles in-town, to get to whatever event they want to get to. We COULD streamline the cost down to the absolute MINIMUM, with the absolute MINIMUM mileage, and the absolute MINIMUM fuel - but we thought we would make things easier for people, since inevitably, more fuel will be required than the specific mileage round-trip from departure to MN and back. For instance - unless you are staying in Minneapolis or St. Paul, you will likely be driving at least 15-20 miles one-way for each event. Also, we figured fuel at $4.00 per gallon to go to DC, and it ended up being $4.75 in DC. So you see, we are TRYING to ensure that PLENTY of fuel will be available for the travelers, no matter WHAT the fuel cost in whatever city they are refueling.
You can be critical of the idea, but honestly I am so tired of people criticizing those who actually get out there and do something to help others be part of these events. The Ronvoys are intended to allow as MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE to get to these events - so 2, 3, or even 4-seater vehicles that get 33mpg are a rarity for this option. Instead, these vehicles get about 15-18mpg, but they are carrying 12-15 people each to these events, so the benefits outweigh the price, as far as I'm concerned - and the PRICE is good too.
If THIS Ronvoy idea doesn't work for you - consider the fact that the Atlanta route to DC and back was just $100 roundtrip - and we filled THREE VANS FULL of revolutionaries. There are SOME routes that will benefit more, for certain events. It just so happens that Minneapolis is further away than DC for some people this time. Sorry you're not pleased - but I still find it completely unnecessary to try to convince others not to take this option, just because it doesn't work for YOU.
Then you are trying to convince them to find a MORE expensive option just because you THINK in the end it will be less expensive, with time and whatever.
You can fly to St. Paul. Enjoy paying for your rental vehicle while you're there. Enjoy paying the roughly $100 (I saw in another post) to take a cab from the airport into St. Paul to stay at your hotel. It makes FAR LESS sense, in my opinion, to do it that way - but whatever. That's what makes this country great, right? We all have the freedom to choose for ourselves the best option for us, and us alone.![]()
