I am sad to report that on Dec. 4, 2013, the freedom outpost of Mount Desert Island has burned to the ground. In a land of Obama sticker-clad Subarus, Cap’n Nemo’s was an oasis for freedom lovers to enjoy colossal beers, fresh seafood and the company of colorful sea captains and other locals.

Everything about this establishment made it obvious that the owners were non-conformists. Visitors were greeted by Ron Paul signs outside, a “Rights of Man” life preserver on the door, and a Campaign for Liberty flag on the ceiling.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the owners have not only lost their business, but their home as well. They did not have fire insurance. They escaped with nothing but the clothes on their back.

Community support has been substantial, but these good people need a lot of help. I’m hoping that folks from the Ron Paul Revolution will join me in supporting one of our own.

A relief effort has already raised $19,000. Please help if you can.

How can you own a property without insurance? Not having flood insurance I can understand because I know that is a separate policy but I thought fire insurance came with any basic insurance policy. I would not have a business without insurance.

Fire marshals, who were on the scene Wednesday night and again Thursday, have not yet determined the cause of the fire, though they are certain it was accidental, Higgins said.

If they don't know the cause, how do they know that it's accidental? Typical idiotic government statement.

Or maybe an inside job to collect insurance money? This is the problem with the askeptical crowd here, once an event happen, they close their mind entirely to the any possible scenario where anything other than the official explanation can be true.

I hope they recover from this and continue providing an avenue for liberty minded folk to congregate. And for the perpetrator who did this be caught if it was indeed a criminal act.
