Looking for more information on the book of the same name I found this special program on Link TV. Everyone should watch it, especially anyone who thinks we're fighting Islamic extremists, not an oppressed people.

I especially liked the clip of Bin Laden they showed about halfway through:
Before I begin, I say to you that security is an indispensable pillar of human life, free men do not forfeit security, contrary to Bush's claim that we hate freedom. If so, then let him explain to us why we do not strike for example Sweden? We fought you because we are free men who refuse to live under oppression. We want to restore freedom to our nation. Just as you threaten our security, so shall we threaten yours.

Taking Bin Laden at his word is for fools.

Case in point: A few years (I think that was the date) Islamic extremists blew up trains in Madrid. This made the people of Spain so angry at their government that had troops in Iraq that it completely swayed the election and a more leftist party won the election. The new leftist party pulled troops out of Iraq and the same party is still in power.

Only about 6 months ago Islamic extremists were arrested in Spain for trying to blow something else up (received very little press). Spain already pulled out of Iraq, what more did they want?

If we're thinking of the same event it was more likely an assassination attempt than plain old terrorism.

Theo van Gogh and the Jyllands-Posten editorial board disagree.

What you have in (Islamist) weltanschauung is an acute persecution complex.

According to some Islamists, like Sayyid Qutb (a big influence on the Muslim Brotherhood, and their offspring) the very existence of "other" or even an absense of religious faith is a perceived affront to Islam.

Its the jahiliyyah, stupid!

One thing is for certain: Like any other totalitarian ideology, appeasement is a sure route to failure.
