Yeah, and Rand Paul is about as libertarian as Jim Demint. I'll give him a few points over Demint, but not by much. Stefan Molyneux is the only true libertarian in the mainstream.
 
The reason I'll never join the LP is because they're all protest and no party.

I believe many aren't there to win, and they like being fringe.

umm it's a great social group. you meet with people that believe in what you believe and pretend to be a real political party. it's fun

I was finally able to attend a local LP meeting after years of thinking about it. Basically the leader of that group ran for local office at one point. I believe city council. He said he was getting nervous since he was getting really close to actually winning!

Well maybe you can explain what the LP was complaining about in this instance because right now I'm extremely confused. The quote from the LP sounded like someone from the liberal left attacking Rand for not "standing up against discrimination". Be most people at RPF who have attacked Rand on this issue have attacked him for "backing away from property rights". (Most people still haven't figured out that Rand never said he would try to repeal the CRA or that he wouldn't have voted for it had he been in congress in 1964 and wasn't able to modify the language).

Anyway, all I can say is this confirms my decision not to be a libertarian.

I can believe that. If you actually win then you actually have to govern. Let's say a libertarian won the position of criminal court clerk. (It's stupid I know, but here in Tennessee that's an elected position). A big part of the job is following up and collecting fines. If a libertarian won, would he do his job to the best of his ability, or would he say "Screw this! The government forcing people to pay fines for breaking laws that I don't think should even exist is a violation of non aggression principles!" G. Edward Griffin explained it this way. The people who don't like government controlling your lives are the least likely to actually want to be elected to anything.

The worst thing is his vague reference pretending Rand said something racist, which is nonsense.
 
Let me take a guess at what happened... All the libertarians in Kentucky left the Libertarian party to support Rand Paul, and left it in the hands of some former Obamabots who are now pissed off at Obama because he didn't follow through on any of his campaign promises, and just joined the Libertarian party because they're still completely against Republicans, but they really have no idea what the Libertarian platform is.

From what I can gather with a little Googling, since Barr failed to get 2% in KY in 2008 they would need 5000 valid signatures by August 10, 2010 to get ballot access for their U.S. Senate nominee.

Let them waste their meager resources nominating a PC-loving statist if they want -- people will vote for Rand, the principled Constitutionalist.
 
From my past experiences as an LP member, there are some stubborn-ass, egotistical ideologues

I am thinking that this could be:

1. Cynical ploy by Koch to get some money for LP from democrats
2. Reduce Conway funding by siphoning some of the money to KYLP as opposed to Conway campaign
3. Helping republican unity by showing that Rand Paul is NOT libertarian
4. Not running LP candidate in the end

or he could be just a #$%&^ jerk
