Libertarian Party chairman: Ron Paul on LP ticket would be "difficult"

Sure, but if they want it they can do it. If Ron is willing to take millions in matching funds, and polls regularly above 15%, whereas Gary has little money and just polled at 1% in Rasmussen, they could decide GJ could run again next time, that they aren't getting in the debates unless Ron runs as Pres, and that the greater money and attention would help their party. If they decide that, I think they would make it happen. If they don't decide that, they won't. It is obviously their decision, and even then, Ron has to decide, too.

Gary Johnson's VP will be campaigning in my neck of the woods on September 15. It would be AWESOME if it turned out to be Ron Paul instead. Holy crap!

Come on folks, this isn't going to happen. We'd be doing the same thing to the LP as the GOP did to us. Rush in, swarm them with numbers, and over-ride their consent.

But, all it would take for me to vote for the Johnson/Judge Gray ticket, is for them to announce that Ron Paul would play a role in the cabinet, if elected. I think Gary would go for that. What I am not sure of, is whether Ron Paul would.

If Ron were to be on the LP ticket he would be hanging out to dry all those who endeavored advance up through the ranks of the GOP. Better scenario would simply be having Johnson very publicly suggesting he would appoint Ron Paul to Treasury Secretary. That would ignite a brushfire for sure and likely propel Johnson into the debates.

I'm not buying it. See my comment on the article.

Is the LP also the RNC now? Gary Johnson was VOTED in! He just can't GIVE his nomination to Ron Paul at a whim. What does that say for the Libertarian Party when someone who was VOTED to run for president just hands his nomination to someone else? What kind of precedence would that start?

I want Dr. Paul to run 3rd party but I think this hype has taken on a life of it's own. There are RULES!

We wouldn't swarm them at all. They would have to decide it was the best way to go. Ron has certain advantages. They want them or they don't.

If Ron wants to run, I'd support him as independent as much as LP Pres. I don't think it is likely he will do it. But apparently he said he hadn't ruled it out after RNC, maybe just because he was angry at how RNC cheated and thought there should be repurcussions, but maybe he was really saying if a practical path were put ahead of him he might do it. Time is passing, though, so he would have to decide soon.

as for cabinet or any of the other 'after he wins' stuff, the only chance they have of winning is Ron at the top, to get into the debates, since Gary is polling at 1% as of this week in Rasmussen. I still would not be supporting him for a 'win' though I'd certainly love cards to fall that way, but to get Ron in the presidential debates.

But no one is talking about swarming the LP, they won't even have another vote or whatever unless those already there decide to, and the people involved would have to decide it is in their best interest, in the long run.

they don't have to change their electors, hell, they don't even have to change the ballot name. anyone who would vote for ron would know which slate of electors to vote on.

Yeah, but the rules exist for VP too, and apparently the LP thought that was fine. So if they WANT to, and Gray and Gary agree, they can. It would be extraordinary, but they are small enough to do something extraordinary if they want to, being flexible.

Heck the GOP is huge, and they have no problem changing THEIR rules, even against the will of the people.

The LP could play like the big boys.

LOL

in my life experience being the vice chair of the LALP, lpers are strict on rules, even when doing otherwise would be very beneficial.
these things have come up before, every time the rules win.

This actually makes me respect them a lot more.

And that is fine. I wasn't thinking LP until people started saying Gary said he would step aside or would take Ron as VP (which doesn't do it imho). Both of those would be against the rules, unless they changed them with a special meeting. The LP has every right to run their election according to their rules.

Wasn't it you on here just a couple of weeks ago blasting anyone that would want anything to do with Libertarian Party?

Looks like your guys' only chance is on the ticket of the people that have been fighting this battle before a lot of people on here were even born. How times have changed...

No, I don't think bashing was the point, it was, "We aren't looking at GJ right now, Ron is still running".

Are we saying, let's argue over anything we can while the country is burning?

I don't think ANYONE wants to INVADE the LP.

No, I was saying Gary Johnson didn't do anything for me, and that Ron was going to be at a GOP RNC where we wanted to be treated fairly. I never 'blasted' the LP.
