According to Kentucky law, the GOP couldn't name another candidate to replace him if he were to drop out. It would just mean that the Democratic candidate would be running unopposed.

wrong the last day to petition the state to file as a candidate is Aug 8th, at that point Rand would resign his position as Senator and by law the GOP is allowed to petition the state to fill the vacancy with a new candidate to run in his spot.

The important detail is Rand would have to resign, and by that time Rand would either have the GOP nomination locked up or not.

Speaking of which. I may be projecting here but do we know if Ron's other son, I believe his name is Ron Paul Jr., has any interest in challenging Cruise?

The one in Texas is Robert Paul. And no, he's not going to challenge Cruz. He could run after Cornyn or some house member quits, but I've heard that he probably won't run for office. Although he's said in the past that he hasn't ruled out getting into politics.

Do you have a link for that? I hope that's the case, but I thought I had read that in order for a candidate to get his name off the ballot and get a replacement candidate on the ballot they either had to be dead or be declared insane by a judge.

No you can still get on the ballot by August, we are just talking primaries right now, the Lexington mayor has to win his primary, hopefully some smart Rand supporters will run on the KY Dem ballot to make the mayor work for it.

You can still run as an independent and a state political party can name their candidate by Aug 8th

There is no way, with the kind of deal maker McConnell is, that he won't make sure there's a Republican candidate on the ballot for US Senate.

It will be a huge issue and will be used against Rand if he gains traction in the GOP Presidential race. I wish that Rand and/or his advisers would've explained what their plan is in the event that Rand becomes the GOP nominee.

There is a competitive advantage in not saying too much about their plans. Just know this is one of the things that was considered when Rand decided to run for president. If he gets attacked for it, it's on him to deal with it. So far, he's handled it very well.

What would happen if Rand were to somehow win the GOP nomination? Kentucky law is still that you can't be on the ballot in more than one race. I don't see how he gets around that in the general election if he ends up being the GOP nominee.

I think if he is the nominee he would force Grimes to sue him where he would win it
