Lee Bright seeking support with poor response...they prefer Nancy Mace

I don't know much about this race, but it amazes me how it seems SC conservatives can't get their shit together. If they're serious about beating Graham, then they 3 need to lock themselves in a room and hash out who should run.

Not so well … in fact most lawmakers who are being solicited by Bright tell FITS they see Lowcountry businesswoman Nancy Mace as the best conservative challenger to Graham in 2014. Which makes them not unlike Graham supporters …

Gee, I wonder why? In all seriousness, while Mace has not officially declared- rather, just teased- that she would run, she's at least keeping her name out there and relevant in South Carolina. Whether it will be enough to build up a strong name recognition and donor base remains to be seen. I've said it before, but when it was between Davis, Bright and Mace, that was enough. Then Cash at least officially stepped up to bat, with Mace still deciding whether she's going to do it. It's annoying, and if Mace is serious, go ahead and say some-oh, why bother repeating the same thing. She's not reading here.

I thought Bright had given up.

I will be glad when this circus ends.

FITSnews is extremely biased and does not have its finger on the pulse all the time with regards to SC politics. I do think she won't be good enough to beat Graham or even scare him. I think Bright is better suited to pepper him with attacks and travel around the state. It's not easy for him to pull off either but just think his style is more what will bring him down than Mace's

Is Nancy friendly to our cause?

I'd much prefer Bright or Davis because we know they were here as RP'ers when it wasn't the cool thing to do. What has Nancy done for us?

Yes she's very friendly allegedly but not effective I fear.

Davis would be the ideal candidate but it doesn't seem like he wants to step up. He's got a young family and such.

Nancy is reportedly more socially liberal than Bright. The best candidate in South Carolina is someone who is more socially conservative than Graham, not less.

Nancy is not likely socially liberal. They'll try and antagonize social conservatives against her by talking up the soft-porn aspect of FITSnews and that's it. I know nothing about Lee Bright. Lee Bright doesn't really promote himself or function as an attack dog type like Tom Davis does. Nancy Mace has been Tom's PR rep so I would expect there to be lots of overlap between them. Bright is also too socially conservative in the sense that he'd likely run a Bostic style campaign hyping his Christian credentials. I like social conservatives but I want to hear about the more important issues like fiscal policy and civil liberties at this point.

Bright doesn't have the profile of Davis but I assure you can serve as an effective attack dog with withering and sharp attacks and may grow into this role. I doubt Mace's niceness will work. I could be totally wrong though. Just my considered opinion.

Bright is a social conservative but he's also big on liberty and that's good to reach those voters we need to reach. SC elects social conservatives and they would be an important part of his base especially the part of the State he's from.

Remember Bostic's supporters got him into a runoff with Sanford despite him not even living in the district and being hardly known.

If we can get Graham under 50% and into a run off (is this the law for Senate primaries?) then we'll have a great chance at defeating him in a run off. This is the way he goes down I think. Remember Ron Paul won his seat in a Texas run off despite being trounced initially.

So from that perspective the more who run the better it is just as long as we hold Graham to under 50% this time.

Unfortunately his base is going to be national security types and with 8 military bases in SC that translates to tens of thousands of GOP votes that he will have organized and in his pocket. He will likely destroy any opposition but we should try and get him into a run off and see what happens.

The only problem is that it will affect the fundraising of the challenger and Graham has millions so it's not ideal but neither challenger will raise that much as no one will expect Graham to go down so unless outside money pours in and chooses the better horse to back it's a bit of a pipe dream. This may happen as Club4growth and Heritage do not like Graham.

The best candidate will always win in these circumstances. Sadly I dont think that's Mace.

Bottom line: Social conservatives have a lot of juice in SC GOP politics as we saw with Bostic beating more established state reps and senators to get into a run off with Mark Sanford. FITSNews has no idea what they're talking about. Bright's path to victory will rely on reaching out to Church groups in a way that Bostic did and also uniting Tea Partiers and disaffected conservatives to try and hold Graham to under 50% and get him into a run off where he could defeat him 3 weeks later.

But Bostic wasn't a fiscal conservative, he was like Huckabee or Santorum.

Emphasizing both faith and fiscal discipline can work out. DeMint is a prime example of that in South Carolina.

I guess it depends on what issue you're talking about as to whether being "socially liberal" is a good thing or not. If being "socially liberal" simply means opposing the war on drugs or something like that, then that's good. But if it means being pro choice on the abortion issue, that's not so good.

Judging from Mace's Twitter, it's all consideration, which I assume most figured it would be:

@JackHassJr Considering it. It's the US Senate, it's serious business & a formidable challenge. Not something you just wake up 1 day & do.

Valid. Though I do have to ask the question of 'Why bother?' At this point, it's Cash whose thrown his name into the ring. Mace may be trying to start a conversation, but that conversation has no end if she ends up deciding she won't run. Though at least she acknowledges that challenging Graham would be no easy task.

You have to lineup donors willing to give millions for you to compete. I think Mace could raise that kind of cash.

Cash has absolutely no chance and neither does Mace or Bright really. Their only hope is to go head 2 head in a run off and spark some kind of backlash. Graham will crush almost every opponent with military first GOP votes.

Do you read any of my posts? :P

People see your posts and they can form their opinions about this race as much as you can. What any of us says or doubts doesn't mean it still can't be discussed. I mean, late into the 2012 election, Ron Paul had next to no chance of toppling Romney in the delegate count- and the roll call at the RNC was even more evident of that- but that didn't stop people from talking about his chances of even being nominated from the floor anyway. People can speculate or talk as they will.
