Well, for starters, 56 and 21 don't add up to 100. There's still 23 points missing. You can only vote for one or the other in the Virginia. Even still, Not all of those 23 are going to break for Paul. Grassroots has to put some effort into forcing a surge there.

That poll is missing 23% of voters...so a lot of swing voters still available.

Ultimately this just reflects what a lot of have been seeing in the cross-tabs for a while...Ron isn't polling strong enough 2nd/3rd numbers to go one-on-one with any of the other candidates. (yet!)

Why is this? If you ask the republicans...it's simple...it's 'national defense'. Paul's position is great, but he hasn't been hammering away at it with his TV ads which IMO he needs to do:

This doesn't look very promising. And we will not likely pick up the undecideds guys - sorry, but it always turns out that way.

Ha...grassroots supporters don't know what they're talking about. The campaign has a clear strategy, and supporters need to just keep giving them millions...while they work their strategy and basically ignore every single decent point that has been brought up since the campaign started.

This should be the easiest state to win

Supporters standing outside every polling place with flyers that effectively separate Ron Paul from Romney.

shouldnt the grassroots be hitting virginia HARD with phone from home?????????????? i mean you either vote for romney or paul. i cant see how the grassroots wouldnt be very very successful in virgina~!!!!

I'm in central Virginia [CD4] and it's dead as door nail here. No signs, commercials, ads or anything. There are lots of people here that don't like Romney, but we have lots of establishment types and a huge block of apathetic types too. I think it's gonna be somewhere between 75/25 and 60/40 with low turnout in my local area. I've never been to the county canvas where the actual delegates are picked, but I'm going this time. I just got to figure out who the RP people are.

If a candidate picks up 50% of the vote it's WTA. And just so you guys know, I wasn't included in this poll and I'm a Virginian. They probably polled 100 people and called it a day.

What's really disgusting is that only 31% want Romney--when they included all 4 candidates (+17% undecided, which even if they all went to Romney is less than half of the voters!). So why wouldn't Santorum and Gingrich voters try to stop Romney especially when they claim that Paul is not a threat and "has no chance" and Romney is about to run away with the nomination???

The anti-Paul brigade is far bigger than the anti-Romney brigade in the GOP.

This I think is the primary problem. We keep building up to be the anti-Romney.... but reality is I think even THOSE people would rather vote Romney than Paul. The anti-Paul vote is very strong. I see no path to nomination that doesn't involve an open convention in August. If we end up 1 on 1 with Romney it looks like he will turn into a freight train. We NEED Santorum and Gingrich to stay competitive.
