Kurt Bills primary is Tuesday, August 14th

Way too close for me.

We've been hearing that the Republican establishment has been sitting on it's hands and pushing Carlson behind the scenes. This proves it.

I'm betting that they'll vote for Klobuchar to stick it to us.

IMHO he really needs to run on NDAA etc, educate the people on it and say she voted for it. I would think Dems as well as GOP wouldn't like that. Heck, before they knew Romney supported it GEORGIA GOP passed a resolution saying they would never endorse anyone who supported that.

The general is going to be tough in any event. The reason Bills' main competitor was even running was generally assumed to be to get name recognition for a later run. But Kurt Bills has cross over appeal, if he will talk about it.

IDK, I think the vast majority of voters love NDAA. Plus, it would be very complicated to explain as when people object to it, they usually only object to a tiny part of it and still like most of it.

I think the vast majority of voters have no clue what is in NDAA. Those arguing it is fine either wrongly say it was not applicable to citizens (a different section isn't applicable) or cite that 'doesn't take habeus corpus from those entitled to it' amendment which ignores that the way the entire thing is drafted is to frame this in a strained situation (war or rebellion in the homeland) where even under the Constitution habeus corpus can be suspended. It basically says that is here now, so there would be no 'otherwise entitled' if you buy that.

But the folks in MN know better what will work there. It was popular for Ron on the campaign trail though, with little down side.

You are just talking about a tiny section of it. The NDAA is about funding the military. IMO, the majority of voters, even if you convinced them that 1 tiny section of the NDAA was bad, would still be very happy with the overall bill, IMO. The other option to many people is the complete end of the US military.

He only has to oppose that section in his speeches.

Sorry, but this is way too close for my liking. This is going to look bad if Bills finishes under 50%. Remember, Carlson is a total nobody who just appeared in the last month. He didn't even have a real campaign outside of that Fox ad. If it weren't for that bit of agit-prop and the tantrum throwing GOPe, Carlson would be finishing around 10% like the other guy named Carney. Not cool.

Bills' chances are going to hinge entirely on the grassroots. It's abundantly clear that the GOPe in MN is STANDING DOWN. I've heard more than a few stories about local GOP offices where they will have signs and supplies for every candidate but Bills. They hate him so much, not just because of his association with Ron Paul, but because he routed their chosen ones, Dan Severson and Pete Hegseth.

It's really unfair too. If not for Ron Paul, I see no reason why Bills wouldn't have the support of the mainstream. He could have gained much respect on his conservative record and lifestyle alone.

I had Bills as a teacher in High School, and he was nothing but honest, a classy teacher and a family man. Bills didn't back away from his Paul support when he so easily could have, just to appease the GOPe base.

In fact, he stood true to his principles, the same ones that had him criticizing Keynes back in my old economics class and endorsing Ron Paul shortly before the February caucuses. His support for Paul was not new then, nor was it opportunistic. Bills was at my father's caucus in 2008, when the man was still a only a teacher (he hadn't been elected to the state house yet), and he supported Ron Paul that year too.

Now, the GOPe doesn't want to give the real Kurt Bills a chance. They see only Ron Paul when they look at him. They've turned him into a target, a symbol, a whipping boy for their hatred of what RP supporters were able to do in this state.

To me, that means we should do the same. Please don't let Kurt Bills down this autumn.

At least Bills won the primary. Both Hovde and Neumann lost in WI.

Unfortunately, even though the Democratic primary was mostly a joke, more voters showed up. That's not unexpected in MN. Nevertheless, it is a bad sign.

It's gonna be awfully tempting at some point in the near future to send an email to that Carlson guy. I probably shouldn't, though. What as asshole.
