Kid needs material on police brutality project. Anybody want to take five minutes to answer?

A student just asked a Yahoo question that goes like this:

"How to end police brutality?
I am doing a project and need some good reasoning on how to better get rid of police brutality"



Instead of writing the same cathartic response on RPF, would anyone be interested in writing that same response to answer this kid's question? My reply took less than three minutes to type.

If you don't want to type anything, then you can also just add a link, such as www.copblock.com, www.filmingcops.com, www.photographyisnotacrime, etc.

If you can't spare the time for that, then you might just want to "thumb down" copsucker replies like this from user N2Audio:

If people would stop wielding guns and knives that would be helpful.

If people are going to wield guns and knives and not put them down when asked and/or told to by police they won't be brutalized, they'll be shot, as they should be.

Or, thumb down copsucker ICU2 when he says:

Why dont you do a project on how criminals put themselves in that position of police brutality...criminals will do anything to avoid going to jail...

That's was pretty much my reply. I said:

Implement and enforce personal responsibility. Police know that any lawsuit means taxpayers will foot the bill. Put them on the hook and you will see how fast they change their behavior.

People also need to take charge. Somebody's dog gets shot, and the owner sues and says the inane, "I support the police, but why did he have to shoot my dog?"

No more of that nonsense. If cops cross you, forget the lawsuit. Stop being so passive. Take charge. Fight back. You are NOT shooting my dog.

By the way, the Yahoo site is barely moderated. They have high post count people who move questions. They even eliminated a lot of the Malaysian girl moderators to whom they were paying a few pennies.

Short of threatening someone, you can say just about anything. Even at that, I have seen people make threats on there. Sort of funny, really.

My answer other than holding cops accountable is for better training. There is a story in the news about a 14 yr old wielding a knife that the police shot. The cops weren't alone and they could have easily take him down with little to no injury to themselves. The boy had been in a fight, his face was bloody and he looked exhausted but instead of taking him down or maybe shooting him in the leg or something, they decided to shoot the torso which left the poor boy fighting for him life.

So training is big in my book after accountability. I wish someone more popular would post the story cos it is very newsworthy.

"Rogue cop" should be a valid defense just like the "castle doctrine". A menacing lunatic with a gun should be dealt with harshly whether or not he's in a blue uniform with a badge.

This particular question is more academic, but I sometimes reply to these types of questions. At least it gets ideas out there.

The only right answer is eliminating Police from the equation.

a simple definition of "police",,combined with the history of police should convince any rational mind that police are the problem, and that they should not exist in a free society.

It is concrete proof that we are not a free society.
