[Kickoff 2012] NFL Football is Back: Discuss your games here.

Sometimes you need to give the serious stuff a break. That doesn't mean your out of touch or distracted?

Having fun and enjoying life doesn't mean you don't "get it". Ever had sex?....I'm not usually thinking about politics during it. Same goes with sports sometimes. LOL!!

Lol. I think about baseball sometimes. That's it.

The Falcons are shitting themselves and the Packers may throw their game against the 49ers just to avoid the Seahawks. The 49ers IN San Francisco are the only remaining NFC team capable of handling the Seahawks. No doubt in my mind the 49ers win that matchup. No doubt in my mind the Seahawks leave Atlanta and (if it happens) Green Bay with wins.

There's a lot that can happen between now and then, we'll just have to see how it all plays out. I like our chances though. :p

Yeah, I always talk from the point of view of how it looks to me. But one thing I love about football is that the phrase "any given Sunday" applies in the most literal way in any game. You truly never know how it will turn out until the game is played.

Provided the refs stay out of it. Which doesn't always happen.

This SF/Green Bay game could go either way. Once again, the Niners have a lot of key injuries (and essentially a rookie Quarterback this time around).

They're on fire, they're capable of 40. I'd bet anything on Seattle winning. I just don't take Atlanta very seriously. The only reason I don't fear Seattle is because they're coming to San Francisco.

Speaking of that, for our matchup with Green Bay, I'm hoping for rain so bad the players can barely stay upright. Green Bay has no chance in that type of game against the 49ers. We would win even if it's 6-3.

You're far from the only one who doesn't take Atlanta seriously, but what else is new, every time they say "this is the game that will show that the Falcons are for real", but even after shutting down both Mannings, Brees, RG3, Romo, Rivers, Stafford, it will always be next game that matters until they win a Superbowl (and even then will probably be called a fluke ).

What exactly do you not take seriously? A team that is 33-4 at home under Ryan, the best 3 targets in the business in Roddy, Julio (who torched Seattle's big corners last go round for 205 yards BTW) and Gonzalez, a QB who's on the fringe of being elite and shown a great ability to come from behind and be at his best when his back is against the wall, or a defense who is top 5 in both scoring defense and turnovers (bend don't break). This isn't last year's Falcons, they have 2 new coordinators with a much more aggressive attitude.

And the scary thing is that they haven't even shown that much yet. I truly believe that they haven't been running so much no-huddle because they haven't had to, and don't want to give them film on it, but Ryan is one of the best in the biz at dictating tempo and switching plays at the line to exploit the defensive looks. Kroy Biermann also said recently that DC Nolan's playbook is much deeper than they've shown. That should scare offenses with how well they've already done to not allow a lot of points.

The one thing this team doesn't do well is run, but they've been the best in the NFL in the screen game, which both helps to supplant the run and combat the pass rush.... As for the pass-rush, the Seahwaks having Clemons out is a big blow, and it might even help the Falcons running game with Irvin being a big liability against the run (he's purely a pass-rush specialist, but will be forced to start).

The keys for the Falcons will be stopping Lynch (have not been very good against the run, but this same unit was top 10 against it last season) and making Wilson uncomfortable (more confident about this, with Nolan always disguising looks and moving guys around).

Should be a hell of a game, but especially playing in the Dome and not Seattle, it's ridiculous that the Falcons are getting so little respect. That should change on Sunday, win or lose.

Seahawks and the 49'ers in San Fran for the Division....oh yeah....please make it happen. Win or lose, it will be an epic match-up.

You guys always find a way to fuck it up. Charlie Batch, Joey Harrington, Matt Stafford. With the proper head coach and GM you could've been serious contenders with any of those 3.
The Ford family doesn't like to fire their scouts or coordinators, you should hear the sports talk radio around these parts, the fans are going crazy. At least we got the Tigers, picked up Tori Hunter and our man V-Mart is coming back next season.

The Lions have all the talent they need right now, just need to plug up a few holes. Doesn't help they play in a pretty competitive division the past few seasons, but, nonetheless, I feel that their record doesn't justify the damage they could have done.

They need to can Schwartz, IMO... Not seen many other teams play so dirty and with so little discipline, and I think it's gotten to the point that it reflects poorly on their coaching.

(And this coming from someone who roots for the Lions, with them having 2 studs from Georgia in Stafford and Calvin).

Schwartz definitely needs to be the first to go. No one likes a dirty team, and Schwartz reflects that. And I can say that as a NFL fan who doesn't care one way or another how the Lions do every year.

It seems we have a Falcons fan in here :p Thanks for the post, like I said earlier in this thread, I haven't paid much attention to football this year.

We shall see what happens :)

Nice. Do not ever let VMart go. Ever. For any reason. Hunter is crazy. He's like 50 and refuses to play any older than 25 :p

Do you still have Doug Fister? I went to high school with him.

How are they dirty? Like I said, I haven't been watching football much this season.

I'll say one thing, the NFL today is a pussy pop warner flag football league compared to how it was in the 90s.

Take away instant replay. Just bring FOOTBALL back!

Yeah, the two things I could do without are

(1) The incidental helmet-to-helmet flags and fines when the guy clearly is making an effort to lead with his shoulder or go into the body
(2) Not all contact between receiver and defensive back are pass interference! Unless the guy has a fistful of jersey or still doesn't know the ball was thrown 5 seconds after the play....let them play!
