[Kickoff 2012] NFL Football is Back: Discuss your games here.

Because coaches and players are still playing for their jobs... Sure losing worked well for the Colts, but there was a massive house-cleaning in the offseason, and many of the coaches and players aren't even around anymore to reap the benefits... I mean, maybe if the owner colluded with everyone to tell them their jobs were safe, but even that is pretty ridiculous when you have actual personnel evaluations to make in the offseason. I know if I were an owner or GM, I'd want to determine first and foremost who I'm getting 100% out of, and who can be replaced.

Also, if fans who are paying good money to go see their team play even suspect they're tanking, that only stands to lose you revenue too. Even in a futile season, there are certain games on the schedule that are like your Superbowl if you win.

The same could be said in the NBA as well, though. Teams openly tank all the time in the NBA for good draft picks. Just ask the Bulls and Blazers the year Michael Jordan was drafted or the Golden State Warriors last year. I don't get how football is somehow different. I would rather go 2-14 than 8-8 and miss the playoffs. If I were an owner and my team was absolutely terrible, I would tank on purpose for a couple of years, acquire a ton of great, cheap talent, and then compete. It's better than fighting tooth and nail to be 6-10.

Alright, now that's just BS. The tuck rule was put in place in 1999. The Patriots even had a tuck rule go against them earlier that season against the Jets.

Well then it was revised after that play. It was a fumble by the current rules at that time.

It's in Seattle...where the crowd literally registers as an earthquake :( Yes literally. Google it.

Men In The Mirror

Talks about the similarities between the 49ers and Seahawks ^

Interesting thing about the quake. The station which picked it up was only 100 yards from the stadium though. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2010/news/story?id=6008462
Turns out, Lynch's TD shook Qwest Field and the ground around the stadium -- literally.

Vidale said a seismic monitoring station located about 100 yards west of the stadium registered seismic activity during Lynch's run. The shaking was most intense during a 30-second stretch about the time Lynch broke free from the line of scrimmage, finished off his touchdown and celebrated in the end zone with his teammates.

After that, Vidale said, the shaking died down, but it took about a minute for the shaking to completely fade away.

This was the first time Vidale has taken a look at the monitoring station near the stadium. He said the station that picked up the tremors is mostly concerned with monitoring the two-level viaduct highway that runs along the Seattle waterfront and the seawall.

Trucks driving by could cause that as well (which is what the station was apparently set up to measure).

its ALL about the DECIBELS. Guaranteed....effin LOUD. The 12th man will be in the house today.

It will come down to this. THE QUARTERBACKS.

Oh yeah, it's not the trucks Zippy. I used to worry about the roof coming down back in the Kingdome days, literally.

This really is the first game I have been interested in watching all year, should be quite a battle.

They seem to be monitoring that highway for earthquakes. The trucks mean nothing in the equation, it seems. Thanks though, I never knew the monitoring station was only 300ft away.

Denver basically clinches first round bye. Only way they won't would be if they lost to Kansas City (in Denver) and New England beats Miami. Broncos can pick up the #1 seed (thanks to Minnisota beating Houston today- they are tied now at 12-3 but Houston has the tie- breaker of a head to head victory) if Denver wins and the Texans lose at Indianapolis next week. If Denver beats KC next week, they will have finished the season with eleven straight wins- last losing in New England in back on October 7th. Indianapolis clinched their own playoff spot today.
