State Senator Kelli Ward is running against John McCain in the GOP Primary in Arizona.

Kelli on the Fourth Amendment
Monday, May 16, 2016

...
As an AZ State Senator, Dr. Kelli Ward introduced AZ S.B. 1156, The Fourth Amendment Act, to prohibit agents of The State of Arizona from co-operating with federal agents in the mass surveillance of cell phone records without a "warrant that particularly describes the person, place, and thing to be searched or seized."

This is based on the explicit text of the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Senator Ward’s message was simple:

The NSA isn’t welcome in Arizona unless it follows the Constitution. Kelli still opposes unconstitutional NSA spying and warrantless wiretapping.

Kelli will approach all legislation in the U.S. Senate with a two part test:

Is it a legitimate government function?
Is it Constitutional?

Kelli agrees with the late Justice Scalia’s view that “The Constitution is not a living organism. It's a legal document, and it says what it says and doesn't say what it doesn't say."

Even more importantly, Kelli believes that our rights are granted by God, not government. Although the rights of the people are unlimited and unenumerated, federal powers are strictly limited by their enumeration in Article I, Section 8.

According to the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, all other rights and powers belong to the people and the States respectively.

Picking up a cell phone doesn’t terminate your Constitutional right to privacy, and federal bureaucrats can’t point to a single case where warrantless wiretapping has made us any safer from terrorist attack.

The number one priority for national security is defending the Constitution. Period. We must protect our freedoms and liberties for which so many have fought and died. Without that, the rest becomes irrelevant.

Kelli is running for U.S. Senate as a citizen servant, not a career politician. She will be a Bold, Fresh, and Fearless constitutional champion for AZ, not DC.

41-26 McCain-Ward in the latest PPP polling.

I don't know what to make of this race.

Kelli can win, McCain is obviously deeply unpopular so I think it is just an issue of her getting her name and message out. I think McCain has a real chance of losing this primary with a well funded opponent, don't be afraid of taking advantage of the schism between McCain and Trump as a means to an end. If McCain doesn't lose in the primary then I will vote for Ann Kirkpatrick in the general.
