Hello friends!

I previously posted this in the Michigan sub-section but things seem a little slow there. My name's Keith Allard (yes, I am a proud RPF member) and I'm running for the State House in Grand Rapids. This is a Republican-majority district that is currently held by a Democrat, and it is very likely that the winner of the Republican primary will become the next State Representative.

I'm through-and-through a liberty candidate, and like many of you, am proud to say that Dr. Paul cured me of my apathy. Some of you may recognize my name from e-mails for Justin Amash, for whom I previously served as campaign manager. Rep. Amash is my hero and role-model, and his service in the State House is what compelled me to run for office in the first place. The establishment is real, they are powerful, but finally WE are making headway.

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My campaign website is http://www.keithallard.com, Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/keith4rep, and twitter is @keith4rep. Many of you have probably connected with me prior, but I wanted to say "hi!" to the rest.

Your pal in liberty,

Keith

Your name sounds familiar. Were you Justin Amash's campaign manager?

What does the primary battle look like right now?
When does it take place?

Primary looks extremely winnable, but we're running like we're 50 points down and working things hard. It's a one-on-one race with an establishment candidate who has some serious flaws (she quit her only previous elected position shortly into her first term). It takes place on August 5th.

How's your ground game (do you have volunteers ready)? Do you have any fundraising goals? I'll donate what I can!

We have a huge volunteer base of grassroots liberty types who are ready to roll and win this. We just need to get enough money raised to get our mailings out. I'll be announcing a money bomb in mid-April; any help my RPF friends can give to promote would be greatly appreciated. I'll keep everyone in the loop!

Album drops August 5th :)

Nice interview with a local paper about my candidacy: http://therapidian.org/keith-allard-wants-your-vote-grand-rapids

One snippet:

Why do you think older voters should vote for you?
I think it’s time for a new generation of leadership. Young folks like myself enter politics without the hard-worn grudges and policy prejudices those who have been in the machine for decades possess. We take a fresh look at the major issues. We’re willing to reconsider failed policies like the war on drugs, and have seen the effects of endless bailouts and regulatory capture for big business. Less than 3% of people my age are in unions. We understand intrinsically where the 21st century economy is heading and are prepared to make policy decisions that are in the best interests of future generations, not just the next election.

An endorsement from my man Amash?

Color me impressed! I'm glad to see you have some weight behind you on this. I'll have to donate something when I get the chance. I haven't kept up to date on your campaign, any updates for us?

Things are going very well. We have a solid volunteer base, and have hit thousands of doors in the district. Judging sheerly by yard signs, we have a huge advantage, but the establishment is going to throw the kitchen sink at us. MIRS (a super-insider publication for politicos) ranked us one of the top ten primaries in the state, and noted that Lansing insiders were rallying behind one of the other candidates.

Amash's endorsement is huge, as my entire district is within his congressional district and he won it handily in his 2010 primary. It's shaping up to be your typical big business vs. free market proxy battle, but that doesn't stop me from sticking to my principles.

This is a crucial seat for the liberty movement in Michigan. Our two strongest liberty allies (Tom McMillin being one) are term-limited out of the legislature this year, and the establishment will do anything in its power to ensure the legislature is stacked with their Big Business, Chamber of Crony Commerce allies.

I also conducted an interview for the Sunday morning show of the biggest broadcast network in West Michigan. You can watch my interview (as well as my primary opponents) at this link: http://woodtv.com/2014/06/22/to-the-point-76th-and-72nd-house-races/ My interview starts around 05:20.

What are the chances of getting a Keith Allard for State Rep sub-forum set up on the RPFs? Anyone I should chat with regarding that?

Sounds good to me, make some more posts about your campaign. Hopefully Bryan will set one up, not much point unless there is content to go in it though.

Another big endorsement: I'm running against two former Grand Rapids Comptrollers, and the current Comptroller endorsed me over her predecessors.

“Keith is somebody that is of the generation that is going to be saddled with the debt that’s been created by Lansing and Washington,” Vander Werff said. “He has worked in Lansing and has seen some of the waste and is motivated to do something about that.“I’m not endorsing a party. I’m endorsing an individual.”

I can't speculate as to your chances, but I'm pretty sure that Shem (and Gunny, a few years back) got his because he is a well known longtime member who also used to be one of the mods. Bryan is the one to talk to since the decision is ultimately his, but also talking about it with as many of the mods as possible certainly couldn't hurt. Unfortunately, our state-level candidates don't seem to get the attention here that they deserve, in spite of these races being just as important as the national level ones, if not arguably more so. Other than a state-level candidates' section or individual sections for each state-level candidate, what do you feel would help bring our state-level candidates more visibility here?

Is your name here a reference to the connectors? If so, how does it relate, since an xlr and a bnc don't mate, and serve very different purposes?

I used to work in public access television; just combined the names of two of our cords when trying to think of an e-mail address. At heart, I'm a nerd.

We're holding a money bomb this Wednesday, July 16th. It'd be really awesome to raise funds for one or two more mailers to the district. We have a campaign filing due next week, and though I doubt we can beat the establishment in terms of sheer dollars (it won't surprise you to hear I've received no support from lobbyists or PACs), I want to have the biggest amount of actual individual donors. Any help from the RPF would obviously be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all you folks do! The campaign website/donor link is www.keithallard.com
