Kansas Caucuses Thread

Who would you have voted for instead?

Same person I'll probably end up voting for if Paul doesn't get the nomination. Gary Johnson, and I don't even consider him a very good libertarian (FairTax is not a good solution to tax issues, and he has waffled on Gitmo too many times). A lot of people voting for Paul are libertarians who know Paul is ideologically pure for the most part and are able to look over some issues they may disagree. Rand seems to be playing realpolitik and has no libertarian ideology governing his votes (though he often votes in a way I agree with on many issues). Where I really struggle with Rand is his "corporations are people" attitude and how often he seems to be kissing corporate interests. We all like Ron because he isn't being a corporatist, he wants corporations to duke it out in the free market and the government isn't there to protect them. Rand reacted very strongly in a pro-BP manner after the oil spill that seemed to suggest he wouldn't hold Ron's view that he didn't think BP should be liable for the damages they caused under a free market environmentalist tort system.

Gary Johnson gives me reservations, but he's better than Bob Barr, and if Ron isn't on the ballot I have no doubt I'll support him. If Rand had run along with Gary I would have voted for Gary because he is much more ideologically driven by libertarianism and doesn't try to sound like a neocon on foreign policy.

Call me what ever you want, but I think Ron IS getting the votes, and enough to have won several states by now!!! To understand how Ron hasn't won a single state yet, you have to first understand how much money the upper people of this country make off of our corrupt system of government!! If you can't understand how much money these people actually make, then you will never understand how Ron hasn't won a single state yet...... EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET THIS THROUGH THEIR HEADS....there is ABSOLUTELY no way in hell these people will ever allow the votes to ever show that Ron has a higher pct of the votes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never in a million years will they ever allow Ron Paul to ever Gain a single ounce or inch of momentum at all!!!!!!!!!!! What we are doing if you really think about it is really UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!! Many can argue that right now Ron Paul is in second place with the delegate count or they can say he is right near the leader in delegates.....the media basically runs everything they run people's minds!!!!! When it comes to elections, they will do everything in their power to make the AMERICAN people vote for who they want in office!!! With all that being said I think we all are doing an excellent job to say the least... With his blatant black out, we STILL have a shot to win this in Tampa despite how the main stream media treats him!!!!!! Whether you want to believe it or not we are living in a very very corrupt system and the powers that actually run this country will DIE or go to jail for a million years before they ever give Ron a fair shot!! So don't expect to win the popular vote in any states from here on out!!!! Just sign up to be delegates whether your bound to Romney newt or santorum and when it comes time in Tampa where you become unbound, BOOM you vote for Ron Paul and we TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!!!!!!!! Just my .02

So these same people who won't let him win a single state are going to let him get the nomination in Tampa?

Rand Paul is driven by libertarian ideology, even moreso than Gary Johnson I think.

I don't mind his defense of corporations, I just don't like corporations writing laws.

plain and simple people. it's the media.

Right. The only way to beat the media is to get out "in front" of the media when they are about to do a hit piece. Instead of the campaign wasting money on press releases for nonsense like:

Ron Paul Forms Coalition with Latrine Scrubbers or Ron Paul Forms Coalition with People That Wear Green Socks on Tuesdays

The campaign should have been spending that money counteracting media lies and misrepresentations everyday instead of these Coalition Press releases that were out just about every other day.

So you believe in Marx's theory of progressive taxation?

This post is why I hate the GOP. You're using vitriol and screams of socialism and Marxism to dismiss an obviously unlibertarian (despite Gary Johnson's arguments to the contrary) position that a FairTax is fair and therefore just is wrong. FairTax is still a tax, the government does not own your labor and have a right to your income. It is also not remotely "fair" as lower incomes will spend a disproportionately higher percentage of their income on consumption. It's regressive, it's total garbage, and Ron is right when he says we need to abolish the income tax and replace it with nothing. The current tax system is actually "fairer" than the FairTax because everyone pays the same percentage of their income (in each bracket, even a millionaire pays the lower tax rate on the money they make in the lower brackets) rather than those who spend more on consumption paying a higher percentage of their income. You know who a FairTax hurts the most? Homeless people and those who have barely any money to survive to begin with (and won't be able to get a prebate).

2,100 people at his University of Kansas rally last night.

173 votes.

The low turnout cost us 3rd place and it prevented us from getting delegates. :(

173 votes in Douglas County? What the hell happened?

Same thing that happened here in King County Washington, most of the people who went to the rallies and that I ID'd in canvassing liked Ron Paul, but when it came time to vote didn't show up.

Well in the real world there is government and it must be funded.

The whole "percentage of income" is a Marxist argument, and if there is to be taxation it should be equal. Having the read the FairTax book it makes a lot more sense than the current system, and it allows more choice as it is dependent on the purchase of a product, rather than your money being taken before you see it.

btw, I think Rand was talking about a flat tax. In the real world we do not just go from A to Z, there has to be transition. Rand understands this and it is why he is being successful.

Well I just got home. Disappointed by the news, but happy I got to cast my vote for Ron Paul today.

The Caucus was open from 10am to 1pm. We stayed the entire time. There was a good crowd of Paul supporters at the beginning, but throughout the whole process, a line of people (a lot of older folks of course) just kept coming in the door, going straight to the ballot box, dropping their vote, and leaving. This line didn't stop until 1pm.

Because of that neverending line... I'd say 40% Santy 30% Romney 15% Paul 5 % Gingrich.

So many evil looks!

I was the only one to boo. I booed this fire-breathing pastor that spoke for Santorum.

They wanted to take the Ballot boxes to a central location (7 precincts in Johnson County). We requested it be counted right there, but were denied. So the guy watching the ballots rode in the car with the people driving the box, and I followed to bring him back to the caucus site. We did this twice for 2 boxes. Kinda weird, but we made sure they arrived without any tampering. What happened from there? I can only hope for the best. We had one guy in there (all they would allow), but there was way too much counting for him to see it all.

If I goto vote and they try this in my state, I'm chaining myself to the ballot boxes.

we did badly?

Lol pretty much. Seems people enjoy being suckers for punishment all too often. Santorum is going to dominate virtually all of the central states in the country. These KS results shouldn't be a shock to anyone.

And as usual, the 'dependable kids' wind up turning out to be the opposite. I don't expect every single one of them at rallies to turn up voting, but christ, 173? That is just flat out embarrassing.

There is absolutely zero legitimate reason why they would have to be counted centrally, without counting them first in front of the people who voted.

not on purpose but there will be world media at that. I'm sure they will throw everything they can at us every step of the way.

8.2% voted. Not the best turnout, eh? ;)
