Kansas Caucuses Thread

I'm getting ready to go to my caucus in Stafford County, Kansas. I'm going to be giving a short, two minute speech for Ron Paul. I pretty much have it memorized, so it should go well. My county is very socially conservative, so I expect Santorum to win my county pretty easily. I'm just hoping that Ron can at least get third in my county and get at least 20% of the vote statewide so that he can get some delegates. I'll post an update on what happened at my caucus when it's over.

Let's be proud of the Kansans willing to face the Santorum tsunami today... Huckabee won it in 2008, even as his campaign was winding down.

Standing here at Shawnee mission west waiting. That's district 3 in Johnson county. Paul set to speak At 11. Lotta Romney and sanity folks gonna get to hear him talk. 300 people approx right now

I hope they are going to openly count or report vote totals? Good luck with your speech!

Olathe South, 6 votes for Paul brought with me and there was more support for Santa than Paul, but Paul got more than the other two. Gingrich had no support. The Paul Rep was ok but kept asking for applause. Majority of votes were the senior crowd.

just thought that I'd give you guys an update from my precinct 7 in johnson county - the largest ks county. We had 4 designated speakers - one from each campaign. The gingrich speaker was average but the santorum speaker (judging by crowd reaction) blew up. Unfortunately for us there was also a pretty charismatic romney speaker who the crowd really liked. Ron's speaker although younger did fairly well. He mentioned a bunch of good talking points including one about how ron would reduce presidential pay from 400k to 38k. The crowd really liked that. I was definitely the youngest voter there and the crowd was mostly 40 and older. I will be sticking around until results are finished but as of now I will just say that romney may have an edge on santorum here.

Thanks for the updates.

Don't regret not calling or taking that person(s) that was in the back of your head!

is it an open caucus? What are the rules?

You must be a registered Republican. We just got back from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. Ron showed up to shake hands and then left to go to another caucus. He got some votes just for showing up. We heard some people indicate they would vote for him because he came. There seemed to be a good group of Dr. Paul supporters.

Unfortunately, my youngest son had to use a provisional ballot. He changed his registration from independent to Republican way before the state deadline. I checked the online database with my county yesterday to confirm it had been changed - all was good. At the caucus their database still showed him as an independent! The funny thing, my middle son (who wasn't registered) registered AFTER my youngest son and he was in the database. It doesn't make sense to me. My youngest son was very disappointed. I hope his vote gets counted.

It's too bad that Kansas has a dumb caucus. My entire family supports Ron Paul as well as my extended family - we all would have voted for him in a typical Primary. Unfortunately, we also own two retail stores in town and are not going to sacrifice a potential 10k in business on a Saturday (our busiest day) to go caucus.

I have at least 10 family members who would have gone and voted if it weren't a caucus.

wow.

It is obviously your choice, but there's something to be said for the idea of putting up some huge signs indicating the store is closed (for a few hours) due to the Caucus, with caucus information, and maybe a nice subtle Ron Paul 2012 sign in the window. I hope at least some of your family made it.
