just got a suspicious phone call

another approach is to ask what their question is, and then answer it "incorrectly"

The only thing better than no data in the hands of the enemy is bad data.

or respond, "delegate to what?? What are you talking about?"

Some have said McCain did the same thing in 2008 to make sure no RP delegates were seated.

caller: I have a short one question survey for delegates to the state republican convention
me: No, I'm not wearing any underwear ;)

They are a legit firm, and have a history of conducting political polls. A polite "no thank you" is apparently no longer in fashion.

A polite "no thank you" might be due when you know who is calling and why. Knowing the research firm reveals little unless that research firm is in the habit of disclosing their client's information. Why not ask for information? They called to ask for information, in what manner could asking questions ever be construed as not polite or cause you to conclude that politeness is "no longer in fashion"?

More so, how does a "legit firm", hang up after being asked legitimate questions? Would not a legit firm say, "I'm sorry but we are not allowed to disclose more information than I have provided." Even if politeness were due, it can't be delivered after an abrupt hang up.

Who would bankroll this? The media stopped polling months ago (or has it just been weeks?). Perhaps these hacks aren't legit and perhaps they aren't "conquest research". I wouldn't give my employer's name and hang up on someone in that fashion. Props to OP for staying on top of it.

These companies call at all hours once they have your number, trying to data mine as much as possible. It's nothing new, and since the OP did not actually take the "survey," we have no idea what it's about. We just have a bunch of wild speculation.

If we don't know more, it's because "conquest research" hung up. What we do know ("delegates", "short one question survey") is a direct result of the OP. The "wild speculation" could be more so had OP not gotten the name "conquest research", and instead only answered the question. Or are there prizes at the ends of these surveys?

I've filed to be a delegate at the Va state convention next week and just got this call...

caller: i have a short one question survey for delegates to the state republican convention
me: who are you with?
caller: conquest research
me: who is behind this?
caller: long pause and hangs up

I get the feeling someone was in his ear coaching him... he didnt sound like the brightest.

It's just Romney's Goldman Sach's money at work. Romney is trying to discredit any Ron Paul supporters. I heard he spent a million in Michigan trying to do so.

You need to learn how to be polite from the biggest condescending know-it-all member of this forum.

Yeah seems like the obvious strategy here would be to say you support Romney.

In other states the Romney campaign was known to have hired pollsters to 'poll' your presidential candidate before state convention. Nevada was one of them.

I received the same call yesterday. they asked whether I would be supporting Bolling or Cuccinelli for governor - the two main "establishment" factions within the party here in VA right now. I simply told them I wasn't comfortable answering the question and that was that. Could have been sponsored by either campaign.
