John Dennis Exploratory Committee

John Dennis should run for Senate. That house seat is simply not winnable for an R. Obviously running as a Republican for Senate in California is also difficult but JD brings a different perspective than the standard Republican.

An anti-war libertarian Republican could potentially garner crossover support and California Republicans are desperate to win any kind of federal race.

Good idea!

It would be the same as running against Pelosi, but Dennis would get killed with the amount cash Sen. Boxer and Sen. Feinstein has. He should run for senate after he miraculously win against Pelosi or easily take the Secretary of State seat, which is the most advisable strategy.

Even if John Dennis was a gay liberal with a hot boyfriend who was more liberal than Pelosi, he still couldn't win.

Actually, Justin Raimundo of antiwar.com is a gay libertarian who did run against Pelosi in 1996. He got 12% of the vote on the Republican ticket. I don't know what his boyfriend looked like.

I don't think Dennis' run is necessarily a waste even though he isn't going to win. He actually did better against Pelosi than most Republican candidates have done, and it will help the liberty movement in San Francisco's Republican Party. It could also help Ron Paul win that district in the 2012 primary. Last time out he actually won the endorsement of the San Francisco Examiner. That's the city's leading newspaper and such papers rarely endorse a candidate with no chance of winning. He also won the endorsement of Cindy Sheehan a Democrat who founded the anti-Iraq War movement and who ran against Pelosi as an independent in 08.

Without any party affiliation on the ballot and having gained name recognition, Dennis should be able to do better this time out. If he does exceptionally well, then his support will be sought by future statewide GOP candidates. Such support would come with a price tag.

Exactly, in 2014, he will have the "moxie" to run for Sec. of State of California, as I said so many times, and no one would listen.
