Joe Scarborough: Ron Paul/Mitt Romney alliance is ‘bizarre’ [VIDEO]

Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul has been very critical of his competition in the race for the Republican presidential nomination but has laid off former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, prompting MSNBC Joe Scarborough to suggest an unpublicized deal between the two on Thursday’s episode of “Morning Joe.”

“The thing that went unspoken but everybody knows, and that is that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have formed an alliance,” Scarborough said. “It is such an obvious alliance that Mitt Romney would do well to just come out and admit it. I don’t know what he’s promised Ron Paul. I don’t know if Ron Paul is hoping that his son gets in the administration. But let’s just be really honest here — for all people for Ron Paul to form an alliance with in the Republican Party, to pick out Mitt Romney is really bizarre.”

And they call Ron Paul supporters a bunch of conspiracy theorists...

Ron Paul practices what he preaches. Do they really think he'd form an entangling alliance with Romney? Take a look at Ron Paul's foreign policy, and compare it to how he treats other candidates. He is open to free trade of ideas. When his ideas/policies are successful, others shift their ideas/policies closer to his. How much has Ron Paul shifted the focus of the debates? How much has Ron Paul affected Romney's ideas/policies in the last 5 years? I'd say quite a bit.

The media wants Ron Paul to go to war against the other candidates, and when he isn't, they think he must have an alliance with them. They still don't get it. It's not one or the other... there's a middle ground here where you can affect the most change, and have the most success, and Ron Paul's doing it. Just compare Ron Paul's platform to how he runs his campaign, and you'll see MANY similarities... it's as simple as that, no crazy conspiracy theory needed.

So the MSM suddenly stopped lying about Ron Paul. No.

We should all know by now that they black-out Ron Paul, the only time they ever not-black-out is so they can lie about him or attack him. This included.

Ron Paul is smart. Why burn bridges with the potential president? Duh. This movement is all about expanding it's influence.

Every time Dr. Paul gains momentum, they put out a hit piece, so I have no idea why anyone would beleive that they're being truthful now, when all they're doing is trying to paint in Ron with Romney's estabishment (the exact reason he won't do it either).

Pointing out the obvious here....Does anyone else see why Rand Paul is being used as the example of a bargaining chip?

If the media is going to use this crazy made up Meme of a Ron Paul/Mitt Romney alliance, why not say that Ron Paul would be hoping for a V.P. slot?

The media would never want to put that idea in anyone's head.

Ron has attacked Romney before, he just hasn't singled him out. So what? It's called strategy.

Cashing in chips at a later date. Romney is kingmaker. We get our nose in the tent. Keep piling up delegates, which will in turn lead to more leverage.

Nice to see that Scarborough has joined the legions of tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists who've been promoting this ridiculous meme.

Respectfully snipped...

How much has Ron Paul affected Romney's ideas/policies in the last 5 years? I'd say quite a bit.

I'd say Ron Paul hasn't affected Romney's foreign policy plans one iota.

Not even slightly.

Romney is the ONLY candidate who wants to SPEND MORE on military. He is the only one saying the U.S. Navy is puny and that we need to build more ships. He is the one saying that under Obama we are LOSING our strength and we need to add more active duty service people AND build MORE weapons. He also says we need to be tougher in the middle east...like illegally and unconstitutionally murdering an American citizen isn't being tough. Or using drones and bombs.

I'd hate to see what Romney would want to do IF Ron Paul hadn't changed him "quite a bit".

Putting a stamp of approval on unconstitutional and illegal war, liberty assaults, human rights assaults...all of which Romney flat-out supports is NOT negotiating. It would be a surrender. Those are issues that should be UNASSAILED.

In my opinion.

They are trying to sap his support. Here's the thing. If we can get a Ron win, we need to work at it -- wins in states where we can win and meeting thresholds such as the 15% in Michigan we need for delegates. Every vote counts. The more delegates the more power Ron has to EITHER be president or to effect the outcome. IF he loses, we want the best he can get, and for me, I would be looking at a fall back to give RON influence and power. He is the one we have complete faith in. But I am certainly not going to worry about the 'form' of a fall back while we should be focused on the win.

Ron put it VERY well with his racing analogy: while you are running you run to win. You don't worry about places. Running to win is going to get the best place you can get, as a side effect.

I didn't even know Morning Joe was Ron's personal mind reader. In fact, I didn't even know Ron HAD a personal mind reader...Interesting.

Well, I bet Romney will never again say "I'd consult my lawyers" when asked about declaring war. :p

Can you imagine Ron Paul giving THAT answer?

Or Ron Paul saying we that 20% of US budget going for military ISN'T ENOUGH?

I'd say Romney has been listening to his ex-Bush team foreign policy advisers (all 23 of them) and NOT so much Ron Paul.

Doug Wead commented on this during his FB Q&A yesterday and he said that there is no "alliance" and that Ron Paul is trying to win the nomination and not get his son Romney's VP slot.
