What many on here are doing are playing a rather pathetic game of semantics at this point. So, Ron never verbally said that "he dropped out". He did say, however, that "victory isn't possible in the conventional sense" and is not actively seeking the nomination at all, at this point. In the end, nothing Jesse said is incorrect at this point. I don't know why it is so hard to accept the truth, anymore. Then, I see comments like Jesse can "get Fucked" ... "Jesse can blow me", etc. The posters of today come across like a bunch of adolescents. For all intents and purposes, John McCain will be the Republican nominee. Like it or not. The time has come to accept it, and then decide what is going to be done in the General Election about it. Whether it be voting Constitution/Libertarian Party, not voting at all, writing in Ron's name, or any other option. The time has long past in accepting that Ron isn't getting the GOP nomination.
Ventura is just confused. I can't blame him, unless you hang out on internet sites like RP Forums, it's very easy to think Ron Paul has dropped out. I lay blame squarely on the heads of the national campaign. That horribly managed Youtube video and publicity statements by campaign figures who said themselves that Ron Paul was dropping out back in early March hurt us a lot. I personally have set four people straight who thought Ron Paul was out of the race since that convoluted message from the campaign last month, which the MSM jumped on and distorted.
I agree. Though maybe it's not that they come across as adolescants but maybe they are adolescents hence the speech patterns used. This is why some forums have moderators. I just hope that this type of speech is used only in these forums since this is the type of stuff that turned off a ton of Republicans to Ron Paul. The only problem I have with Jesse is the same problem I have with Bob Barr. I don't see them going after the Federal Reserve and our fractional reserve fiat based banking system! Though I did hear Ventura mention the devaluing of our dollar after "Nixon pulled us off the Gold Standard" (I use quotes since Bretton Woods was a piss poor version of a gold standard) so he must have some knowledge on this issue. This is the issue that's going to kill us, not wars, but monetary policy.
Well... considering the electoral college was designed in an era where cross-continent communication would take a month.... It did serve the country well so that the country did not become fractured. That was it's intent.
In the present, if you ask 100 people what the electoral college is, I would bet that 95 or more of them wouldn't have a clue what it is. Nor would they even realize that thier "popular" vote for president means virtually nothing.
Now, the electoral college is simply used by the establishment as a last resort to make the election outcome how they want. 2004 ring a bell? The people did not vote in Bush, the electoral college did. Bush lost the "popular" vote.
I agree with Jessie, it needs to be eliminated. We are in an era of information and communication on a global scale. In a perfect world, I would think that the media would inform the citizens, as to where they can make informed decisions, and the popular vote would be the only vote. But yes, I will preemptively agree that the thought of all them sheep voting is scary. But, I have never bought into the analogy of democracy where the two wolves and one sheep deciding what to have for lunch. Nice analogy, but it is not pertinent unless evil out numbers good. I tend to apply the theory of relativity to this...
Ron Paul has basically dropped out. He just dances around not saying it.
Can we please stop talking about Jessie Ventura on this board. Jessie has to realize the revolution already started without him and it is not his revolution. Obviously he has not given much thought on how the revolution will transpire.
