Jenni Rivera, a math teacher from Raleigh, saw Fidel, her husband of 17 years and best friend, board a plane bound for Mexico after immigration laws left her family with no choice but to separate them.

"Every father should be able to be with his family."

On a page that reflected the long compendium of similar cases, Fidel Rivera boarded a flight back to Mexico. After 30 years in the United States and 17 years of marriage, he made the painful decision to self-deport, leaving behind his wife and daughters Mackenzie (17) and Isabella (15), rather than continue living in constant fear of being detained and deported.

According to testimony before American Families United (AFU), Fidel did not want his daughters to join the list of about 100 US citizen children, from newborns to teenagers, who were stranded without parents due to this year's immigration enforcement measures.

“Fidel is an incredible human being,” Jenni said. "I didn't want to see him arrested and held in a detention center, knowing what happens in those places. If his spirit was broken or if he came out different, I simply couldn't bear it."

Like 1.4 million mixed-status couples in the United States, The Rivera family has lived with the reality that marrying a citizen does not automatically guarantee legal status, leaving families caught between living in fear or living apart.

“What I'm going to miss the most are the soccer games with my daughters. That's where I found my peace,” Fidel said. "During the games, I don't think about work problems, I don't think about what I have to fix at home. I just watch my daughters play, and it's like I'm on another planet. That's what I'm going to miss the most."

Fidel worked for the past 17 years as a well-respected electrician for a company near Raleigh, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Jenni is an experienced math teacher at a time when math teachers are in short supply nationwide.

Yet, like the Riveras, family separation and child “kidnapping” are the daily fears faced by migrants who go to work, recreation centers, or courts. This is due to raids in which masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents use excessive brutality to tear them from the arms of their loved ones and take them to detention centers.

What a pathetic appeal to emotion. Damn, you can't hate the media enough.

What a pathetic appeal to Fed.gov to meddle into the private affairs of others to the point of breaking up a productive family unit, all because you advocate Papers Please, elimination of due process and permission to work from Fed.gov. Damn, you can't censor enough.

He didn't want to strand his children so he stranded his children? Interesting.

Pretty weak argument against the horrible "enforcement measures" when the guy decided to "self-deport" with no "enforcement" actions being taken against him.

On the other hand, doesn't he get some kind of payment and a free flight home? Wonder if he will have to pay for his own return flight back to the US? Or will USAID and some NGO pay for that?

The group promoting this story is American Families United

They, in turn, are funded by the American Business Immigration Coalition

They are a leftist immigration advocacy group, comprised almost exclusively of older White male leftists.

They favor immigration invasions under the ruse of being a source of cheap labor.

As to the individual in this story, if you did not want to be separated from your family, you should not have invaded my county.

If I were getting thrown out of Mexico for violating their, quite strict, immigration and work visa laws, there would be no sympathy org. waiting for me.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to end up being dragged away, state to state, awaiting a "hearing", while my family wondered what the hell happened. Due process is no longer, in accordance with the Technocrat blueprint, don't ya know.

Or will USAID and some NGO pay for that?

Nope. You, like most 'Merikans, obviously pick and choose what you want to absorb to fit your own ill-gotten agenda. The wife, who is a math teacher [which there is significant shortage of here in the states], is going to relocate and teach something of value in Mexico. Which means uprooting a hardworking family from here. The father is an electrician who earned a wage for 17 years, not living off of welfare.

Obama/Today's "republicans": "If you see something, say something!"

Since when is it some sort of abuse for mexicans to have to live in mexico?

That is the implication, so when is the US going to officially declare mexico a human rights pariah state?

"Sorry honey, terrible news. I am going to have to take a free ride back to Mexico. I'll really miss you and the kids, but don't worry, I'll manage somehow."

I'm also pretty much assuming that his green card application is on hold until he resolves his illegal status, so it's basically just a short term vacation in Mexico until his temporary visa and eventual green card gets approved anyway.

LOL. And where did the story say that she and the rest of the family were going to Mexico?

And speaking of absorbing what you want to hear, I never said that I support this guy being deported, that is just you straw-manning. I have repeatedly said that I do not support prioritizing someone for deportation who has been here that long.

Speaking of being here this long and having an American wife, why hasn't he gotten some form of valid immigration status at this point?

What is pathetic is the emotional, disingenuous propaganda you posted.

Did he apply? When did he apply?

I'm just assuming he did. He'd have to be pretty stupid and lazy not to.

But then again, he is Mexican

I'm familiar with people in his position IRL. They don't apply because there are a lot of advantages for them to remain underground (in addition to the fact that it is a pain to apply).

Cash under the table, never filing or paying a variety of taxes, free healthcare, virtual immunity from the legal system are just a few.

Seems like you could do the same thing by just pretending to be illegal.

As long as you know Spanish or Swahili or something

There you go again. I didn't say his family was going. I said his wife was:

Although Fidel's wife and daughters will remain in the United States for now, Jenni is already planning to retire early so she can leave the country and be with her husband.

And speaking of absorbing what you want to hear, I never said that I support this guy being deported, that is just you straw-manning. I have repeatedly said that I do not support prioritizing someone for deportation who has been here that long.

Fair.

Who knows, perhaps ask him. But isn't that the goal of any good libertarian/anarchist, to not have to be "documented" and not have to abide by the dictates of a federal government? Or is the end-goal to make certain that every man, woman and child has papers/biometrics to show upon demand?

What is pathetic is the emotional, disingenuous propaganda you posted.

Of course. Any time due process, Bill of Rights, get the Fed.gov OFF my back enters into play, it becomes "pathetic" and "emotional" Your masters thank you for your service.
