Jefferson County Victory!

Looking at the msnbc map too, in some places Ron Paul got a very high percentage:

Cedar County: Paul: 14.49%
Johnson County: Paul: 15.21%
Jackson County: Paul 16.85%
Alamakee County: Paul: 21.05%
Mitchell County: Paul: 15.49%

And so forth.

Good job, Guys!

Any idea what is so special about Jefferson County, or the above counties? Why did we do so much better here than in other areas? Was it more attention from the campaign, or does the population have a different make-up from the rest of the state? Maybe there's something that we can learn here and apply to other states.

Because those counties actually have real Americans in them, not warmongering Jesusland corn-subsidy-loving decrepit old wrinkly cold-war commies.

Jefferson County contains the town of Fairfield which is home to the Maharishi Yoga meditation institute. It's a really cosmopolitan town out in the middle of these rolling hills very pretty. A lot of Mennonites live there also I believe.

Johnson county is where The University of Iowa is and very of which 1/3 of the students are from the Chicagoland area. Eastern Iowa will trend like the the other Big 10 states usually in matters of cultural outlook.

Broad generalizations there but thats my take on it.

Jefferson county is the home of a large group of Maharishi followers - as well as the Maharishi University of Management, and the newly formed town of Vedic City. They are mostly based in Fairfield, Iowa - home to an active MeetUp group and one of Ron Paul's campaign stops last summer. This community actively circulates the Liberty dollar among the merchants, restaurants, etc. They also have their own form of currency that the Maharishi organization created. There are a lot of independent (and wealthy) business-minded folks there, who are very active in politics, ecucationa nd scientific research.

Basically the reason Ron Paul won in that county is because the TM meditators outnumbered the Evangelicals.

According to the data on the site in the link provided by preserveourliberties, here are the counties that we polled 10 percent or better in:

Fair vote counts? Just a guess.

I was a Prescient Captain in Jefferson County (and yes I think it is very fitting that our county is named Jefferson lol) and witnessed the victory for Paul there. Turnout for the Republican caucus was like nothing the county officials had ever seen! I still do wish it could of have duplicated elsewhere across Iowa.

Check out this thread for more info and after caucus analysis:
