Any way, isn't it a long standing tradition in these ivy league schools to have men dress up as women for laffs? They don't talk about it anymore, but I seem to recall many vintage photos of members from high-brow men's clubs cavorting in women's garb.

They never seemed to be hiding it. They would perform like that and seemed to find it hilarious - the kind of stuff that would be featured in a yearbook. It's only in recent years they avoid ever mentioning it - I assume because they would be accused of performing in trans-face and labeled somehow bigoted or whatever.
 
That's also true. Before Drag Queen Story Hours -- federally funded through more than one administration now -- tied cross dressing to gay pedophilia was a simpler time, when Milton Berle was just Milton Berle and the same for Flip Wilson, and you were allowed to laugh at them.
