Japan Has Decided to Shoot Down North Korean Missile

They have every right to do so, as it's a public safety issue. I mean, didn't N. Korea's last missile/rocket thing only stay in the air for 30 seconds? What if it were to miss its target and hit Japan?

The big question now is, will N Korea consider this an act of war?

I agree, but I wonder what this could lead to. Hopefully nothing.

If someone blew up your car because it had an outside chance of that you might crash it into something would you consider that a friendly act?

We don't blow peoples' cars up, we just take their liscense to drive if they prove dangerous. ;)

On the other hand, if someone were to point their rifle at my yard and say, "Don't worry, I won't hit your house!" I'd probably march over there and point him in another direction! Sometimes, you just don't want to take those kinds of chances.

How can anyone be stupid enough to think North Korea would do anything malicious with this when the whole damm thing is blatantly public.

They fcking announced that they are gona launch a satellite to the whole world.

If they wanted to drop a missile on hawaii they wouldn't be telling the whole damm world "hey look at what we're doing"

it's called getting attention so that they have more bargaining power at the endless fucking talks that we have with them in a room on the DMZ

I don't think it's intended to be malicious, but I'd be pretty darned frightened if they were going to try and launch something over America.

Say something did go wrong and Japan was hit. People would be pointing fingers and yelling, "Japan should have done everything in its power to protect its citizens!"

I don't think Korea intends to drop a bomb, but they're pointing it right over other countries.

At any rate, Japan is more concerned with debris.

Japan's constitution does not allow the military to intercept a missile if it is clearly heading elsewhere, but Tokyo would try to shoot down a missile aimed at Japanese territory or intercept any debris.

Japan began deploying its ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile batteries on Friday, with units leaving Iruma air base northwest of Tokyo to be positioned closer to the political and financial centers of the capital, a defense ministry spokesman said.

From the yahoo news.

That thing is supposed to be a satellite launcher, according to NK. but some fear it's a missile.

And the most frightening thing is that it will fly above mainland Japan. Will you let Cuba test a missile flying across America and land in the North Pole? and of course you own neither Cuba nor the North Pole, but will you let them do it?

I don't think ANY country would allow North Korea to shoot a 2 stage booster rocket over their populated country, no matter what the "mission" is. Especially given their track record of success.

"One booster will fall to the right of Japan, the other to the left..."

Not only is it a safety issue, they are shooting an "ICBM" over a sovereign country, THAT'S AN ACT OF WAR! Not shooting it down would show extreme negligence on the part of Japan IMO.

If they had said it was ONLY going to travel over the ocean or their mainland there would have been ZERO fuss.

Japan has AEGIS, they definately have the tech. to do so. All they need is the backing of the international community (to avoid blowback) which I think they have. I think they'll do it.

As far as it goes, I really don't care much at all if the governments of North Korea and Japan want to have at it. The governments wage aggression, the normal everyday folk in both countries get the shaft. It's the same story with nearly every conflict everywhere.

My worry is the prospect of this incident exploding into Korean War, Part 2.... which would 100% involve the United States.

I guess Obama might have somewhere to move some of the folks in Iraq too.... at least the ones not going to Afghanistan, or for that matter the 50,000 going to STAY in Iraq for the rest of eternity. What an imbecile.

So we stay in Iraq forever, increase our military in Afghanistan, maybe attack Pakistan, maybe get into it again on the Korean Penninsula... and all the while the IDIOT "anti-war" crowd in the U.S. sings the praises of the guy at the top, responsible for all of it.

Japan needs to be ready in case the ICBM comes too close for comfort. They have that right and obligation to their citizens.

BUT N. Korea is a sovereign nation. Who has the right to tell them they cannot have a satelite? Seems like what's OK for one nation should be OK for all nations as far as something like this. How many satelites does the US, China, Russia, Europe collectively, India or any other nation have circling the world?

Incredible, yet likely.

This is a scrimmage game for the US and their Ally puppets...
