Janes is reporting ISIL whittling down armored units in Iraq

Only one sequence of images posted on a pro-Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Twitter account on 6 June appears to show an Abrams actually being destroyed. A militant is seen placing a charge on the tank and an object is also thrown into an open turret hatch. Flames are then seen coming out of the hatches. The fate of the crew is unclear.

Another sequence posted on 28 May purportedly shows the same militant placing a charge on or in the turret of another Abrams in a hull-down position. While the extent of the damage caused by the resulting explosion is unclear, the fact that militants are repeatedly getting close to the tanks suggests the vehicles lack adequate infantry support.

They may have..
A shape charge on the turret would wipe the crew. It is possible that some could be salvaged.

Possibly some were captured intact.

Tanks are easy to kill once you get past the psychological factor.

An Iraqi crewed abrams and an american one are not the same thing.Nothing is invincible especially not tanks. It all depends on how it is used.Iraq is a desert flat terrain with no place to hide,cities and hill/mountain regions are a completely another thing.

If the discussion is about an armed resistance in the USA ,it all depends on how big part of your country rebels.If one state rebels of course it will get pummeled but if a big enough part of the country rebels the military will not be able to cover everything and the more brutal they become out of desperation the more the population will rebel.

Any tank is a death trap.. They are quite easily destroyed..

I would not even accept a ride on the outside of one.. It is a psychological weapon that has been obsolete since WWII.

They can be killed a dozen ways.. and have only limited use as a mobile artillery piece. one which would be much more efficient without most of it's armor.

Im thinking this is the building of a pretext to attack Assad's military, like Obama's people wanted all along. There's some chess game being played here but the pieces aren't clear yet.
