OK but why is the Syria part of the name slowly being changed out in the last few days of reporting? Looks like linguistic games.

Most Americans are geographically ignorant. "Levant" is a term going back to the French colonial period in the region, and describes the region rather than national boundaries. Those same Americans would also be clueless if their news report used the term Asia Minor. Even if they can't find Syria on a map, they may know that there is a war there. I try not to contribute to conspiracy what is far more likely to be intellectual laziness.
