It's time for Rand to run an ad about Grayson's Global Warming speech!

I've been digging on this through traditional methods and web archives without result. Trey's oldest posts on Facebook are from October 2008, and any of them having to do with environmental issues seemed to check out (in one post he linked an article about Cap and Trade being dangerous specifically).

It still smells a bit fishy, but I have to think that he had his sights on the Senate at that time and would have been careful about what he said. Then again, he seems to get in trouble every time he opens his jowl.

The problem with pushing this is that he could easily have a tape or transcript of the event that refutes any suggestion that he was there pushing global warming and is just keeping it around to pull out if the suggestion comes up.

Also: first time poster, long time lurker. Boyle County is Rand country.

Might try one last-ditch effort to look through the Richmond paper archives for any mention of the speech. I think I did that back in the fall without result. Troubling to think that something like this could go down and no one would have any record of what transpired.

it could be innocent but it could be dynamite. who knows? one thing we know is that Grayson often comes out with soft sounding stuff to appeal to liberals "im looking forward to working with Obama" being a case in point

Welcome to the board. I think the only damaging thing we'll find is something like "There is no doubt Global Warming is real but your approach is not the answer we've got to try something more "market friendly" blah blah blah".

What I'm thinking is that there is an admission that he believes in Global Warming which will be even tougher to overcome given "Climategate". He's essentially admitted it on the record but used weasel words to leave himself some room to backtrack. From my Redstate post:

The group faced a similar challenge with a statement regarding global warming, which the party’s position statement refers to as “climate change.”

For me the terms are interchangeable,” Grayson said. But for others in the party the term “global warming” isn’t acceptable. “I think the distinction some people make is that they aren’t fully convinced that maybe we’re not warming,” he said. “I don’t think there’s skepticism that something’s going on, which is why the climate change phrase is OK with them.”

I really think he agrees with the global warming crowd in principle but maybe disagrees with their solution or--more likely--agrees with the solution but can't say so publicly.

How about put a reward in the student paper for anyone who has it? Someone else must have taped it, however bad the quality.

We don't have to highlight it being controversial, just say we are looking for a copy of the tape and the ability to use it and will pay, say $1000 for a usable tape. I'd chip in to that. Don't you think a student who taped it would come forward?

Great idea. I'd chip in for that.

I wrote a post about this whole thing last November, and was sent an email from a relative of one of the guys on the media team that recorded the entire event. The video and the audio are both GONE from the school archives. Thing is, no one seems to know where they went. As the school isn't in the habit of losing things from the archives, one can only speculate as to where the thing took off to....

What do you think of having a chip-in for putting an ad in a local newspaper offering $1000 for a copy of the video? That would make some noise. Maybe the journalists themselves will investigate so they can publish some breaking news.

If people think this is a good idea and set up a chip-in, I'll be willing to make a contribution.

Think on May 19th, after Trey Grayson loses, the video will magically appear back in the school's archives?

I would personally put down $5000 of my own money (and I have very little) to have someone produce this video before the primary. I have a feeling this thing is pure gold.

I tried to do some digging myself because I was curious. I recall reading something about there being a Van Jones video conference where he was defaming capitalism and asking for Americans to make monetary sacrifices.

I can only imagine what Trey was saying. Remember that Rand wasn't in the race at the time and Trey probably assumed that he would be the GOP nominee through entitlement.

I'm sure this thing is pure GOLD.

For $5,000 you could probably run an ad locally and offer the rest as a substantial reward. I hope some local member post the details here on how to do it and how much it costs, so an ad can be run by Tuesday May 11, a week before the primary.

EDIT: Looks like Trey's speech was the following night, but it was part of the same event.

Publicizing that you are looking for it would be damaging to Grayson even if you don't find it.
Let voters know that Trey spoke at an environmentalist event and the video is missing.

There's no need for Rand to go negative when he's ahead by 15 points. If he was behind by 15 points it would be a different story. He just needs to run commercials focusing on term limits, ending earmarks, balancing the budget, etc.

I don't think he's ahead by that much. He's above the margin of error, but he's not any more than 10pts, maybe even less.

Why in the heck would you run an ad on global warming when in a few months you will need moderate and liberal votes?

The worst poll for Rand has him up by 12 points. His best independent poll has him up by 18 points. He's up by an average of 15 points on RealClearPolitics. It's not good to get overconfident, but running attack ads this late isn't going to help Rand.
