When hollywood/showbiz trained actor turned politician Reagan aka "MAGA 1.0" had started funding/arming "ISIS 1.0" terrorism against Russian infidels in Afghanistan, had he anticipated risks like these decades later?
Also Trump recently had declared "ISIS defeated" completely, how did this rebirth happen and on whose watch?
This is 3 years after Trump surge. US taxpayers funded gov declares 'day of mourning'.

At least 22 people were killed and 22 wounded after Islamic State-affiliated gunmen stormed Kabul University as it was hosting a book fair attended by Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, taking hostages and fighting gun battles with security forces for more than five hours.
The Afghan government has declared Tuesday a national day of mourning following the attack. Three attackers shot at fleeing students and gunned down others in their classrooms in what was the second assault on an educational facility in the country in recent weeks. The gunmen were shot dead by Afghan security forces, authorities said.
On Monday evening, Isis took responsibility for the attack, claiming it had targeted a “graduation gathering for judges and investigators of the apostate Afghan government”. It named two men as responsible.
The attack began with an explosion at the gates of the university just after 11am on Monday that sent hundreds of students fleeing but left many others trapped inside. Photos shared by a senior government official showed students lying dead in classrooms, some next to their books. One student appeared to have been shot as they were climbing out of a window.
Ahmad Samim, who attends the university, told journalists he saw militants armed with pistols and Kalashnikov assault rifles firing at the school, the country’s oldest with about 22,000 students. He said the attack happened at the university’s eastern side, which houses its law and journalism faculty.

Stats Show Trump’s Afghanistan Surge Has Failed
LONG LOST WAR
Despite unprecedented aerial bombardment and the latest troop escalation, the Taliban had a really good 2019.

New statistics about the United States’ generational war in Afghanistan show that President Trump’s 2017 surge of more than 7,000 troops there failed. The latest figures represent an epitaph for a conflict now tied with the occupation of Haiti as America’s longest overseas misadventure.
Inheriting the war from George W. Bush and Barack Obama and influenced by then-National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, Trump increased the 8,400 U.S. troops in Afghanistan to 15,000—it’s between 12,000 and 13,000 today—and returned what he called “attacking our enemies” to prominence within the war effort. It had taken a back seat to training Afghan forces since the Taliban shrugged off Obama’s larger troop surge.

On a side note, this was bit unusual development in recent past:

Almost every US metric for the war in Afghanistan 'is now classified or nonexistent,'

Also, using whatever political capital available, foreign allies' media should also be held accountable for their reporting and should be asked to stop pubishing such irresponsible reports:

US military allegedly promoting ISIS in Afghanistan

There are allegations that weapons are often transferred to the territory of Afghanistan by helicopters without identifying insignia.

The US military is allegedly allowing members of the ISIS, which have suffered serious defeats in Syria and neighboring Iraq, to infiltrate Afghanistan even as US is engaged with peace talks with Taliban for sake of stability in the landlocked country.

There are allegations that weapons are often transferred to the territory of Afghanistan by helicopters without identifying insignia. With the US and NATO fully controlling the skies over Afghanistan, there is every reason to believe they had a hand in that, or at least, did not hamper these flights, sources alleged.

In early April security officials in Afghanistan arrested a group of six media activists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from Kabul. Detained individuals were involved in pro-ISIS activities in social media networks, mainly spreading propagandas in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Telegram.

Afghan officials arrested 10 other ISIS facilitators during a separate operation in Nangarhar province. 12,500 kilograms of explosives were seized during the same operation. Afghan Special Forces, ISIS and the Taliban are preparing for a three-way battle in eastern Afghanistan. ISIS started an offensive against the Taliban few weeks ago in Kunar province - a fight that has displaced more than 20,000 people.

USA and Brussels, however, deny any such role. USA said that the Islamic State terror group is losing its grip on parts of Afghanistan, slowly succumbing to pressure from U.S. and Afghan forces

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai had once told al-Jazeera television news network that the US is colluding with Daesh in Afghanistan, and allowing the Takfiris to flourish in his conflict-stricken country.

I would say only 63 dead Americans under Trump vs nearly 700 under Dubya Bush and 1700 under Obama is a spectacular success. And Trump didn't bomb any hospitals, unlike Obama. Yeah insurgents killed some students. Unfortunate. Insurgents gonna insurge. But if "winning" in Afghanistan means making it a peaceful place...well there's no "winning" in Afghanistan and there has been no "winning" there ever since Jimmy Carter screwed the place up.

Only total neocons think that more U.S. soldiers need to die, like they did under Bush and Obama, to have a "win" in Afghanistan.

Using this measure, if Bush-Cheney had just dropped few WMDs on Iraq (Japana style) (or really big MOABs that allegdely Trump used in Afghanistan) and reported 0 military casualties... that would have been resounding success.

Trump is better than complete failures of the past though, to give credit where due.

That doesn't seem to be the same photo.

Hopefully there won't be another slide show shown after elections.

So Obama's bombing of a hospital was not enough for you? And what actual objective are you seeking in Afghanistan? Our original objective was supposedly to get rid of Osama Bin Laden, who was actually allowed to escape prior to our invasion. With OBJ gone, and now dead (no body ever independently identified), we are done. Bush could have declared "victory" and just left. Obama could have declared "victory" (before bombing a hospital) and left.

And for the record, Trump used a MOAB in Afghanistan.

Are you happy now?

You're misreading the point completely I think, we should have left long time ago, in fact should have never engagaed in such blowback risky global interventions for interest of foreign countries. Discussion title could be, 'why are we still there'? Why Trump did not declare victory instead of repeating failed past surges strategy. Why 14,000 more troops were sent abroad in 2019.
If you're arguing, his surge was not as bad a failure as those preceeding his, you're right.

Or maybe you’re misreading something (I’m not really sure when the sarcasm is meant serious though)?!?

Who will patrol the Afghan poppy fields when the US army finally leaves (the Saudis, Betsy DeVos's brother Erik Prince mercenaries)?

Firestarter said:
In a 2010 report by Geraldo Rivera on Fox News, a USMC Lt. Col. Admitted that US forces encourage the Afghans to grow different crops, and tolerate poppy cultivation. The US army claims they are teaching the Afghans who are the “good” guys.
The marines also got a nice visit by British Crown Prince Charles… - EDIT video was deleted by Youtube.

In 1983, the British SAS trained the Mujahedin fighters of the drugs trafficking Osama Bin Laden in the hills surrounding the Criffel, Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/1546995.stm

In 2007, Dutch minister Agnes van Ardenne admitted that Dutch soldiers in Afghanistan won’t take part in the destruction of opium poppy crops because it’s “counterproductive”. Van Ardenne said the Netherlands and other European NATO members oppose the plan to destroy the poppies, and would explain this to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
According to NATO commander US Gen. James L. Jones:
Having NATO troops out there burning crops, for example, is not going to significantly contribute to the war on drugs. It's much more sophisticated and complex than that.

Wasn't sarcasm about wars lobbies funded Reagan supporting "ISIS 1.0" Jihdists / terrorists in Afghanistan for interests of foreign countries (growth in mideast settlers population imported from Russia as a result of dim witted Reagan's ill thought jihadi venture against Russia).
But you have a point about poppy fields, maybe ending that intervention would finally put a major dent in opiod crisis at home ( hundreds of of thousands destroyed lives/suicides later).

Didn’t peace loving Jimmy Carter start the funding of the Mujahideen? I’m expecting a big increase in violence once their alphabet soup checks clear. probably also a massive increase of drug production. I’ve never been more disgusted, we’re never going to be allowed to leave.

Didn’t peace loving Jimmy Carter start the funding of the Mujahideen?
Trilateral Commision member Jimmy Carter?!?
No tell me it ain't so!

But we have a new war now?!?
The greatest war since 1945... against an invisible enemy even more dangerous than USAma Bin Laden!

With nothing else to what else to turn to than drugs, alcohol and TV?!?
As part of the corona master plan, drug addiction has spiralled even further out of control. Deaths from narcotics were already at record levels in 2019 with roughly 71,000 deaths. But overdose deaths have jumped by another 28% in Colorado, 30% in Kentucky, and 9% in Washington State in a year: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showth...d-quarantine&p=6991473&viewfull=1#post6991473
