Is 'Libertarian Girl' Rand Paul’s Problem Waiting to Happen?

His Web maven once attacked the Republicans’ foreign policy and McCain’s ‘blood lust.’ She apologized, but will her comments wound the wannabe president’s campaign?

When Rand Paul stepped out of his SUV in the parking lot of the Peppermill Restaurant in Las Vegas last Friday, he was trailed by a woman with bright white hair who looked like a cross between a campaign operative and a fairy.

I immediately recognized her as “Libertarian Girl,” a blogger and social-media personality who over the last few years has amassed a large following of hundreds of thousands by sharing her every political thought—and lots of selfies—on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Marianne Copenhaver is a 27-year-old from Ohio, who advertises herself as a “political activist, graphic designer, digital strategist.” Paul hired her about a month ago to do Web design and social-media outreach. She told me that the Las Vegas trip was the first time she had accompanied Paul on the road.

Who cares? We need to stop worrying about this kind of stuff, and let the chips fall where they may. Pandering to neocons will get us nowhere. McCain supports murder, end of story.
^ This.

It's funny how media will do this. Everyone the campaigns hires or enlists to do some function must mean that the candidate endorses their views. It's the other way around, stupid. And it's not even a 100% endorsement - just better than the others and a job.

HOW could it possibly hurt? Neocons don't like Rand anyway. And McCain **DOES** exhibit 'blood lust.' Is there anyone he doesn't want to bomb?

People who are offended by Marianne's comments are the very same voters who will be voting for Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney. This is a non-starter, and if it's the best "gotcha!" the establishment can come up with to try to smear Rand, well... no wonder they're acting scared of him. They really are.

LOL. No. It's irrelevant. Does anybody really see someone making a TV commercial about this? No. Will it be talked about in debates? Nope. Will this be something discussed on the weekend "Meet the Press" type shows? Unlikely. If people dig through everybody Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush hires will they be able to find something that someone says that somebody else doesn't like? Very possibly. Non story that means nothing outside the blogosphere.

I did my best to do a response to the attacks from the Free Beacon on here. Overall, I think they just needed something new to bash Rand with. That's my take on it.

I just saw this. +rep! ^This is the way to respond to crap on the internet. Don't give the trolls more traffic. That's what they want. Do your own blog/vlog/podcast in response and link to that! We own the internet. It's time we act like it.

Not because she's a socon, nor because she promotes socon ideals, but because she's in the same party as socons and allies with them when possible to get things done?

And the fact that she's a Republican is more damning because of socons than because of neocons?

If you don't insist on failure you're tainted. Were these people always in the LP and just didn't say anything until we left, or is this a result of the Troll Invasion?

I don't see why the Libertarian Party insists that social liberalism has to be part of libertarianism. Many libertarians are pro life, support prayer in schools, etc.

What? Believing in God doesn't instantly and automatically make you a socon?

Of course it does! Just open your can of hot liberal tar and grab your broadest brush. I think I saw a paint brush eighteen feet broad at the hardware store the other day. That might cover the gap...

Is this "Libertarian Party of the Florida Keys" a part of the same "Libertarian Party" that nominated Bob Barr for president?

Why, yes. Yes, it is. (Something to do with "stones" and "glass houses" comes to mind ...)

This smells like a Clinton's work, and given the origin of the author's notoriety, possibly could be.

Its a good thing she apologized. Otherwise the MIC generals might get worried that Rand will not continue to shovel them more and more trillions as Rand has already assured them that he will. And then our dream won't come to pass of Rand being the next Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagan to acquire more power and pollute and dilute the ideas of the American libertarian movement.
