Is it still possible to have a brokered convention?

Theoretically possible (as in Mike and Ron could win every remaining delegate), but pretty unlikely unless something happened to McCain between now and the convention.

That "something happening" would be a MASSIVE negative advertising campaign focusing solely on derailing McCain. Playing nice with TV commercials like "He's catching on I'm telling you" won't do it. When people go into the voting booth they need to be thinking about why they are going to NOT vote for McCain. McCain has to be "swiftboated". Of course there is a LOT of TRUTHFUL things that can be said about McCain but Ron Paul is too nice to say them. Also Dr. Paul MUST go on the offensive about the war on terror. He has to point out that Iraq is NOT the "central front" and bring up the CIA report that Al Qaeda is stronger than ever living in a safe haven in Pakistan. He must point out that Pakistan is negotiating ANOTHER cease fire with the Taliban. He must point out that Iran actually worked with us to through the Taliban out of Afghanistan. He has to explain what his "letters of Marquee and Reprisal" plan is and how it's different from what has already been tried. He can't continue just talking about "blowback".

Possible? Yes.
Likely? No.

There are still people holding on to false hope. I am not one of them.

The Daily Paul article on this points out that not all of 'McCain's delegates' are really bound to him, so the delegate race is still open. What we need is a plan to counter the 'go with the winner' mindset, and to pry those delegates to Paul's camp without it being viewed as his 'stealing the nomination.'

The grassroots will have step up and do killer negative ads on McCain, and set up or assist other anti-McCain orgs (like the veterans groups) in a 'spring offensive' that brings up his negatives, to the point where everybody will be screaming for an alternative. If this means setting up a 527 or a PAC to act as treasury for the ad campaign, so be it. What about (gasp) even helping the DNC run down McCain, the way they carpet bombed Dole with negative ads during the spring of '96? Let's create our own little 'crisis in the GOP' and offer Paul as the unique solution. It would help if this campaign succeeded in pre-establishing that McCain was 'dead in the water' as a viable/electable candidate, so Paul would not be interpreted as a GOP 'spoiler' if he is offered to 'save' the party.

The delegate pickup plans should continue, both to elect overt bound Paul delegates and the 'stealth' ones who though technically committed to X, are really Paul supporters. This will set up Paul's march on DC event (the 'people bomb') as the climax of the effort, which if successful can in turn launch the final push to undo the McCain nomination in September. Perhaps Paul may reconsider an outside run and use the event to announce he's running as an independent, to put additional pressure on the national convention to consider Paul instead. McCain would then be both already established as a loser (by the negative ad campaign) and completely spoiled as a nominee (by Paul being on the ballot in November).

I wonder if Huckabee is gonna do killer negative ads on McCain too? Or is he just being nice so that he may be looking for VP position?

From what I understand McCain needs to nearly win every single delegate from here on out. We know this is next to impossible.

It is still possible, but extremely unlikely, especially after last night. Realistically there is no chance of one, McCain is actually gaining momentum. Anything is possible though!

Here's my proposal. There should be a YouTube contest for the best "stop McCain" ad. The ad MUST be factual and should be relevant but beyond that all bets are off. I'm thinking focusing on things like his weak position on pro life, the fact that he thinks we should be in Iraq 100 years the whole Keating 5 scandal etc. Hey McCain, how about some "straight talk" about your savings and loan scandal?

Possible, yes. Probably... yes. All of the numbers that the media reports are estimates. Huckabee and Paul are getting WAY more delegates than what is reported as "estimated delegates". I wouldn't be surprised if McCain had under 500 delegates right now.

From what I've read there is NO Way McShame will have the necessary delegates to get the nomination outright, so YES hi hoo hi hooo its to a
Republican Convention We Go! :D

from McCain campaign email.

He has 839 needs 352 more. with 774 available he has to win 45% of remaining delegates to get nomination.

It is possible for him to not get them but Huck has to kick ass or Paul has to win some states McCain would have won.
